... sure if it's an actual constellation or if i just put it together my self, but it was spectacular.
On the morning of the 11th we had an early meditation session, cleaned out our rooms then met for a farewell talk from the abbot. After the silence ended we were finally able to "meet" the people that we had spent the last 10 days with. People came from all over: Mexico, Germany, Chile, Canada, Israel and a host of other countries. It's very nice to see so many people from different ...
Surat Thani, Thailand johannajulienThe next part of our journey was by boat, it was the night ferry to Koh Samui, which could only be described as a floating shed. It started off alright until we boarded. The first thing we found was that the boat's lower deck was used for cargo, then we climbed upstairs to the 'sleeping quarters'. We were greeted by 5' 6'' ceilings. Now, Hattie wasn't quite as bothered about this as I was. I felt like I was going to disembark swinging from ...
Surat Thani, Thailand danandhat... must admit, I felt like I was on some kind of strange pilgrimmage where I was searching for Utopia and even stranger still that I could actually find Utopia... I relish these days of having my independence, my own little bungalow near the beach. I can stay up late eating Oreo cookies in bed, watching whatever movie is on. I can unwind as I choose and go where I please. Koh Samui is a good place to be at the end of my trip, a place to save up ...
Koh Samui, Thailand zotterk... WRONG. We board the train our seats are one cart away from the washrooms...gross...and for some reason the aircon isnt on..Weird we baught aircon, we even upgraded. HAahah. yupp you guessed it the aircon was broken, and for the icing on the top because we were in the aircon section our windows are bolted up! Oh wait the electrical is completly out, no lights, no fans, no windows, no food for almost 12 hours! Gotta love asia! :) Ok so we read with our flashlights ...
Surat Thani, Thailand ecce... obvious that this wasn't the most legit driver. There were 3 of us on the bus so 8 spare seats and he decided to become not just a driver but a postman and a taxi driver picking up parcels and people along the way. When the bus was full he actually did what he was paid to do and drive towards Surat Thani. When eventually we were in the right area he decided to drop people off at their houses no matter where they lived. At this point we were nearly two hours over the time we were ...
Surat Thani, Thailand tripofalifetime... my old password thats already expired. they listened to nothing i said and eventually i jsut gave up and bought more time and they just walked off laughing at me. its just one of many examples where ive found it really difficult to get my point across and in the end ive just been ridiculed and laughed at. that would never happen in india or nepal. never. theyd sooner buy you a new computer to try and fix the problem. maybe its just theyre so sick of us gringos that theyve ...
Surat Thani, Thailand nikkiviper... on our hitlist, Koh Tao. No chance! We got a couple of hours kip and decided to extend our stay on Samui by 2 days and have upgraded our accomodation to a posh resort up the beach but still in Bophut. Its called World Resort and we are staying in a gorgeous bamboo bungalow that boasts luxuries such as air con, tv, fridge, minibar and pool along with hot water! Weve had enough of roughing it for now and whilst the place we stayed in before was enough for what we ...
Surat Thani, Thailand lcordiner... shoes had to be taken off at the door and footbaths were at each enterance if your feet were dirty or sandy. The next place I'll introduce is the women's dormitory. Rooms were set up in a square with a courtyard in the middle and the toilets on the opposite end from the doors. Thai style showers were also found by the toilets. These being concrete square pools of water whose walls were about belly-high, where you had to use a small bowl to scoop the water and pour it over ...
Surat Thani, Thailand azurra... I also received an herbal soak where my feet were rubbed with keffir lime and then exfoliated with cane sugar. So in between my various cheap pampering sessions, I managed to try some of the local food, mainly served on the beach itself or from the side of tuk tuks (3-wheeled motorcycles). The most popular treats are fresh fruit and shakes, crepes (I had an amazing one with egg and banana, topped with condensed milk), ice cream (tried the lemongrass flavor - clearly, I ...
