Love it still
Just got back from a trip there this weekend and it's still just as good as it was when it was Harrah's. Love the location (so convenient just to walk to Hollywood to gamble, too). The room is so spacious and so clean. Love, love, love the bathroom layout. No hotel I've ever stayed in has a bathroom that good. The Smokey Joe's restaurant left something to be desired as far as service goes though. The coffee at the java shop was a good pick me up the next morning though.
For the overall trip. The recommendation by many to go to Savoie's for cajun was a bad one. Bad food. Don't do it.
Never had a problem with the coupons..
so I find these last two reviews interesting..I have been receiving coupons for free nights and free buffets for several years now from Harrah's..I go to Harrah's about every 2-3 months and sometimes book my room just a few days in advance, using a coupon, and have never had a problem..Nor with using the free buffet coupons..or with any other coupons for that matter..I really love staying there too because everyone who works there is so friendly and very accommodating..I occasionally stay at The Isle of Capri, which is also nice, but I have to admit, the people and the service is MUCH better at Harrah's..I love the fridge in the room and the bathrooms are quite nice too..I always ask for a view of downtown which is nice in the evening to see the lights..and the lights of the other Casinos. (mini Las Vegas) They also have a heated swimming pool which is nice during the fall and spring.
Promotions/coupons/received in mail
I agree with the previous review dtd for 4/19/04 on Harrah's promotional coupons. I receive free hotel room coupons in the mail periodically, I call the day I receive them and every time I'm told "those rooms for the promotion are all booked"! I called 2 months ago and got a room for 4/23, not a free room, just wanted to stay at Harrahs, have never stayed there before. I received a free hotel coupon that covered the 4/23 so I called to have them add the promotion code to my room reservation that I already had and was told they couldn't because the rooms for the special offer were already booked! I called the day I received the coupon in the mail, already have a booked room! I won't be going back after Fri night.
Be careful of promotional offers
Be careful and be sure and read the fine print when you receive harrah's promotions in the mail. There have been problems previously with these promotions as many people will not read the fine print and will make a trip to the casino thinking they will be able to redeem a coupon and then to their dismay and certainly outrage, they find that these promotions have stipulations attached to them. Tonight April 19th, I had received a promotion in the mail today that gave me a free hotel stay, a 15.00 coupon redeemable for cash, or chips and a buffet for two. I decided not to take advantage of the hotel stay, but I was very interested in the buffet and do some gambling. After we drove the distance from Marshall, (45 miles) we realized that the coupon worked only in tandem with the hotel stay. and there were NO hotel rooms available. I felt a little embarrassed, but of course this wasn't the first time I had not read the fine print (or misinterpreted the fine print) and found I was entitled to nothing. I noticed several people in line with me also were under incorrect initial impressions of the coupons and they were ALL very upset to say the least. One woman had a coupon for 150.00, but she was informed that she would have to play for a long period of time in order to have the money credited to her. There should never be promotions that might be misinterpreted in any way.
Coupons should never APPEAR to be one thing and actually be something else. This is similar to a bait and switch operation. It has been very disconcerting for me because I have gone to Harrah's several times in the past and been disappointed by gimmicky drawings and inappropriate drawing times. I will no longer patrionize Harrah's casino.
This is the place to go!
The Suite was Out-Standing a long with great service from all the employees at the Harrah's at Shreveport , LA. The rooms were big and confortable. The Casino Steak is World Class dinning.
We usually stay at the Horseshoe but decided to try something different and stay at Harrah's. The room was not quite as nice as the Horseshoe's but everyone was very nice and the comps were better even though it was our first time with them. Will definately stay again - after all as much as you donate$$, it's nice to get a little something back. Even if it is just a free breakfast, discounted lunch or possibly a free nights stay!
Loved the Rooms and Spa
My husband and I stayed at the Harrah's for our 1st wedding anniversary and for Christmas. The rooms are spacious, and our favorite part was the tub. I am 6'0 and my husband is 6'4, and each of us (not at the same time) can sit in the tub and stretch our legs out. The Rose Spa is excellent. The people there are courteous and professional - I highly recommend the Rose Spa pedicure and Rose Spa facial. The buffet was OK, the food at the Pepper Rose ("Cowboy-Creole") was good, but the service was VERY slow - there was one server for about 5 or so tables. The SteakHouse is excellent. Great place for a getaway!
A good getaway at Harrah's Shreveport
The "luxury" room was very nice! The bed was extremely comfortable , the towels were thick, and the hotel was very quiet. We liked the casino, but wished it was larger. The pit area had only a few tables, and was often very crowded. Unlike the other casinos we visited, there was only one floor with tables. The casino had a good variety of slot machines, and the waitresses kept the drinks coming! I'll agree that the buffet was not good. The food had often been sitting out too long, and even if it was fresh, it was greasy. We enjoyed the two meals we ate at the Pepper Rose coffee shop. Unfortunately, the steakhouse wasn't open on the nights we were there.Overall, Harrah's Shreveport was a good getaway.
Great spa, skip the buffet
The rooms were very nice and using the last minute Harrah's web deal made them very affordable. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the spa.
The prices at the spa were more reasonable than many we have stayed at.
The buffet food was unacceptable. We stayed on a Tuesday night and they had a great selection of food, but it was kept warm far too long. It wasn't fresh. Desserts were the only thing that tasted great at the buffet.
Seems small to me, but has some perks
The new hotel part is very nice. There are no jucuzzies though. (Only Capri has this that I know of). We stayed on the Concierge level the one time we stayed here. It was complimentary and that was wonderful. The buffet here is pretty nice. However I love the Pepper Rose. It is reasonable and the food is pretty good. The casino is way too small in my opinion. The table limits were too high also. I can't play 25.00 a hand Bacc. Made me feel like riff raff. The casino is a bit darker than I prefer, but it is nice enough. I just have never made any money here. My husband has done well though on the craps table. One important note. The night we stayed here I had an allergic reaction. We now know it was a delayed reaction to an antibiotic. But we didn't know that at the time. I was concerned it was the soap they use for the sheets. The hotel had me take time to complete an incident report for their records before I left. I did this out of courtesy. I didn't ask for anything in return. I thought for sure they would want to make sure I was ok. Nope...Haven't heard from them since. Not so much as a coupon for a hair cut or a how are you anything. I wasn't happy about this. But the rooms are pretty nice. I put them fourth behind Isle even though the room is prettier. Isle has better amenities.

... a beautiful forest on a lakeside. Had ramen noodles and ham salad sandwiches for dinner. Dreaming of last night's gumbo :-) I can hear all of the frogs and insects which is like music to my ears after the hustle and bustle of traffic. Camp site is set up differently here, appeared nicer with a place that seems clearer and less earthy for tent set-up, but then discovered that the bathrooms were out of order, so had to walk 10 mins to get to the next one. ...
Well, I-10 and I-12 are in no better shape than last trips. It's like riding a roller coaster for 2 hours. Luckily I-49 was much better. We took I-49 North to line up with Hwy 380 in Texas. This is a small 2 lane highway to nowhere. Roswell, The Very Large Array, Valley of the Fires and the Painted Desert are accessible from this road.
... the time I hit the outskirts of Shreveport... nothing. There is always something, but nothing has yet come to mind. Oh, well. The goal is Meridian, MS by suppertime, which should be an easy drive, since we left at 1:30 PM. The truck is running fine, the Jeep pulling smoothly, Lacey curled up and happy and we are "On the Road Again". ...

First, a lot of the roses that were in bloom yesterday were weather beaten by the storm last night. There were lots of petals on the ground and the flowers still on the branches were well past their prime. There was, however, buds on a few plants that will be lovely next week.

... tonight. So, like everyone else, we check the news regularly. There was a tornado warning from about 6pm to 4am. We could hear very heavy thunder north of us and see lots of lightning flashes, but we only got some hard rain for a short period of time at bedtime. From the looks of the weather radar, areas very close to us got hit with very hard rain and wind. But, there were no tornadoes. Thank you, Lord. ...
