We took the local bus from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi 2 hour journey for 90p bargain! We booked 2 nights at Sams House but when we got there it was being renovated so they moved us to Sams River Raft House on the River Kwai for the same price 1.80 a night, bonus! It literally is a Raft House constantly swaying on the river, makes you feel sick especially when in the shower! On our first day we hired bikes to ride to the Jeath museum - a museum run by the monks to highlight the atrocities that ha...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand clarabelle29th March 2003: I was gobsmacked to find Steve arrive at mine on time, at quarter to 8 as planned. We both got checked out then got a metered taxi to the Southern bus terminal, which got us there eventually even though our driver did not speak 1 word of English, though my Thai is no better. From here we got a 1st class (bearable) air-con bus to Kanchanaburi. It took only 2 hours which was less than we thought, and from here we got a shared taxi to Sam's place - a recommended guest house, whe...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand countrybumpkinHello from Ayutthya!! On the 22nd, we left our hostel to join our tour. and wow, what a hotel. plush, they give you a towel, seperate rooms. well ok, not that great but compared to a hostel (which i did love for the social aspect!) where we shared a room with 2 other people, this was quite a luxury. with all the extra space, we re-packed our bags and met the rest of our group. After a breif talk from our leader we went for a group meal and a local restraunt. the food was so nice. with a thai ...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand dipal88A short bus ride with air con (we should have appreciated that more at the time) and we arrived at our guesthouse in Kanchanaburi...when our guide said we would be staying on the river I didn't realise he actually meant on the river... as in our beds are floating! It gets a bit rocky everytime a boat goes past and considering the River Kwai is highly used in Thailand for transporting goods, tourist boats and the very loud and fun sounding Karoke boats we were in rocking motion for most of the...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand jenny_marshallAhhh... I'm in a good mood this morning! I wake up slowly after falling back asleep at least twice. Life is good! I pack up my stuff and head to the lobby to grab breakfast before starting my days adventures, whatever that may be. I'm supposed to meet up with Nicki, but that's only for a few hours before she has to go meet her sister around 2, so I'm still trying to figure out what all to do this afternoon. I enjoy a light breakfast and stay at my table leisurely for a bit having a coffee... ...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand madman96Well well.. turns out there were some more crazy times to be had in Thailand.... However this time it was a small town about 2 - 2 1/2 hrs north east of Bangkok... A small, but from what we experienced, a very happening town called Kanchanaburi. To get there we had to hire a minibus. The minibusses go up to Kanchanaburi regularly - like one every hour - and it costs $150 baht each.. or about $6 NZ. Which is CHEAP when u think about it.. the distance is about the same as from Auckland to Whang...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand phillthomasDay 4: Bangkok This was the first official day of our organised tour, but it was the meeting day which meant that people arrived anytime during the day to get to the hotel for 6pm for the welcome meeting. So we left the Soi 1 hostel and headed to the New World Lodge which is a nice hotel in Bangkok, so we took advantage of the decent facilities! Met the others at the meeting. We met Paul the Tour Guide (not really called Paul but his name is too long so he asks us to call him Paul!) who is a ...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand sbanniGot up at 7am to catch the bus from the southern terminal Bangkok to Kanchanaburi. The buses are so easy to figure here, after all the stories id read of bags getting slashed and nicked on bus journeys i was a bit wary, but you literally turn up at the station and on every side of the bus waiting to depart has the name where their going and women in suits to usher you onto the right one.So i chucked my bag under the cabin and got the bus for 2 1/2 hours in air con luxury with reclining seats al...
Kanchanaburi, Thailand scrapironTravelled to Kanchanaburi (River Kwai to you and me) via bus from Bangkok. The place is stunning but very moving - visited 2 war cemetries and travelled to Nam Tok through Death Valley up to Hellfire Pass.
Kanchanaburi, Thailand sheerin09We arrived in Bangkok at 6.25am and need to get to a different Rail station called Bangkok Noi to get a train to Kanchanaburi. Quick Taxi ride and there in plenty of time for 07.45 train to get us to Sams Guest house. A nice Thai man asked at Bangkok if we wanted a taxi for 300 baht so told him where to get off and seeing thjat we were seasoned travellers he instantly reduced the price to 250. We went to the taxi rank and got a nice old boy to take us for 100 Baht. A 50 Baht tip, less than a ...
