Amazing Thailand, Amazing Bangkok !
Well, I actually lost count how many times I have been to this angelic city of Thailand but each time, this place never fails me in terms of its amazing sights, gastronomic food and warm smiley people. Bangkok has and would always be, one of my favourite place on earth for great bargain hunts and colourful dazzling night life. Sawadee Kha !
Two nights in Bangkok is just enough
To get to Bangkok we took a ferry from Ko Kha-Ngan north to Chumphon passing the beautiful little island of Ko Tao. Our 10 hour bus trip was very comfortable and passed in no time. Two nights was all we had in Bangkok since we had visited the city on a previous holiday and got to see most of the highlights. Inge-Marie had unluckily caught the same …
'Down to the islands'
I realized yesterday that there is a limit to how much you can travel...before going insane! Being on the move and having so many late nights, sleepless bus nights, day time activities, and being so excited-gets really damn tiring. Physically and mentally exhausting. But there's no time for laziness, there's always a bus to catch, your passport to find, money to pay, food to buy and accommodation to book, a constant brain tester. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Samran Place Hotel Bangkok
Basic and clean
The room is basic and clean, relatively new except that the lights are pretty dim along the hallway. Not very far from BTS but not exactly near either. The breakfast was basic and simple, no fancy buffets but I thought the croissants were terrible, soft and mushy. I could not get used to the shower and kept fiddling with it for hot water which is quite inconsistent. Overall, it was a pleasant stay if you are not too fussy.
Excellent Place to Stay
We stayed at Samran Place for 5 days. The location was excellent. Only mins away from the BTS station, within walking distance to Pratunam shopping area, Siam Sq. area and the Central World Plaza. There are lots of eating stalls nearby and the massage shop is just next door.
The room and bathroom was very clean. The furniture looks new and the carpets were brand new. It was also quiet. The room had no smell at all. The bed and pillows were comfy.
The service was adequate. Our requests were met efficiently. But the breakfast portion was quite small. You order from the set menu.
The hotel is excellent value for money. Will come back again.
Couldn`t knock this place..Si , Manchester is red
Great hotel, cheap , clean, great staff . Next to the sky train and got Beer on draught what more could you want???A pool, now that would be greedy.lol
Quality Budget Hotel
Samran Place is very central, just a 10 min walk to the BTS. It's easy to get a cab out front (although avoid the cabs waiting), or just a short stroll to the canal boats if you're feeling adventurous. The staff were efficient, although not overly friendly. They have power adapters at the front desk for cameras and phones. The room itself (at the back) was quite large and clean, and the air conditioning worked well. The bed was incredibly hard, but fortunately I was so tired each day it didn't matter. Overall a good budget hotel, and very good value for money.
Fantastic Value
We booked this hotel through sawadee.com. A friend had stayed there the year before and had said it was clean, and had a great location. She was right, for the price we paid, we got a clean room, breakfast included, and it was very close to the skytrain. The restaurant downstairs was not too bad and had reasonable prices. Staff were friendly as well. Would definitly stay again if we go back to Bangkok.
Bangkok airport & Accommodation
Ok. Arrived back from our travels in Asia, 2nd Nov. For anyone wishing to know ( as I did ) you may leave baggage at the new airport for collection. From memory it is 100 baht, per item, per day. Not a locker but security hold believe it's run by Chubb security. As we did not know this on our arrival we had arranged for our hotel to hold our baggage for 7 days prior to check in as we were heading to Laos first. They did this at no cost to us either. The motel you ask ? Samran Place, Bangkok. Close to rail system, 2 stations either way to shopping plazas & markets. Wonderful staff, reasonable rates, incl breakfast & very clean rooms. We were also able to have early check-in. Great for weary travels. Must see in Thailand ? The tigers !! Great time & a highlight of our trip ( of which there were many ). Happy travelling..............Angelk
Great hotel in brilliant location for shopping.
This is a very good hotel, especially for the budget price. We paid for a Superior room and got a large, very clean room with TV and a big bed. The Tv had a movie channel as well as BBC World and a sport channel. The AC worked fine and the bathroom was very clean. The corridors are large and therefore we did not suffer from noise at all. The staff are very helpful and there was even a non Thai on the desk. The breakfast was adequate. As mentioned before the location is great. It is within a short walk of Pantip Plaza and a short taxi ride to MBK Centre, Siam Centre, Paragorn and also Jaktojak market. The hotel also has free parking, all be it limited. The restaurant food it fair as is the price.
I have been to Bangkok many times and this is probably the best hotel I have stayed in for the money. I will now make this my regular hotel when ever there.
Highly recommended.
Nice stay in Bangkok ...
Considering it is a budget hotel, the accomodation was very good. A nice big room, clean bathroom, efficiently working air conditioning, breakfast included (with a choice of different tastes, Western and Thai), polite personnel, good location (close to skytrain, but not to main touristic sights), not much of a view though. Would definitely go back again.
Clean room in a budget hotel - worth the stay!
Samran Place is within walking distance to the nearest skytrain - on your right as you exit out of the hotel, i.e. the BTS Ratchadewi. It'd probably takes less than 10 mins to reach the station. BTS Ratchadewi is conveniently located next to Asia Hotel, and is one station away from Siam station where I'd done alot of shopping during my 3 days stay! The only minus point is that there're a lot of staircases at the various stations, but perhaps it's not bad afterall -- it may be a good exercise for the leg muscles, or simply an excuse to get a good leg massage!;-)
As this is the first time that I'm trying out at a budget hotel; I must say that my stay was a pleasant experience. I'd booked a standard room, and the room given was really clean to my surprise. I've requested for a non-smoking room during my bookings, but when I arrived there - according to the reception -- there're no "non-smoking rooms" available at the hotel.
Well, when I checked into the room, there's no foul smell. I think it's a king-size bed with a Jim Thompson picture frame hanging above it. There's a bathtub in the room and the lightings in the washroom was bright - it was great! It comes with some standard amenities - but without a hairdryer. That's fine as I'd usually bring these stuffs with me when I travel - just don't forget to bring an adapter along with you! There's a small mini fridge, and there're 2 mineral bottles in the fridge as complimentary. I'm usually out of my room by 9:30 am, and by the time that I'd returned to the hotel -- my bed would be made, and the mineral water would be replenished!
The only negative setback that I can comment about the hotel is the breakfast. There isn't much choices -- only 4 different sets, and they do not look the least appealing at all!
There're a lot of food stalls in the evening along the pathway when walking back to the hotel from the BTS station, but then again - the food displayed wasn't appetizing at all, and at some push-cart stalls, there were flies busy buzzing around some of the raw meat.
Overall, the hotel is value for money since it's relatively new and clean. Aircon temperature in the room is adjustable; lightings in the room is adequate, and the shower head in the bathroom is not stuck on the wall. However, try to book a room that's not facing the main road which can be quite noisy with all the traffic. The hotel has only 8 levels with elevator on each floor and there's a gift shop on the 2nd level.
The Airport A2 bus at the fare of Baht 100 takes you from the airport to the front door of hotel, so it's another plus point. At the reception - there's a PC for internet access (I can't remember what the charges are like, and a small counter to book some local tours or to book a cab to the airport if you've an early morning flight connection the next day. Flagging down a cab in front of the hotel is not an issue - just make sure the cab driver switch on his meter to read the fares, otherwise, you can always take the next one that comes along!
If you're a fussy eater where food is concerned -- just head down to the basement supermarket at Siam Paragon using BTS Siam which is one stop away from BTS Ratchadewi - fill up your tummy before you head back to Samran Place for a good soak in the bath tub and a goodnight sleep!;-)
Very nice little find
If you are looking for a place to stay that is an excellent value, very comfortable, clean, has friendly staff, and is located near public transportation, then this is the place for you. Although, the hotel has no view to speak of, it is comfortable and quite clean (the room and bathroom were VERY clean). It comes with fresh towels, water, a fridge mini bar, and few but necessary amenities. The staff are receptive and nice and the breakfast is quite decent. This all comes with a VERy reasonable price. I will most definately stay here again.
