Beaches Wars! From Rainbow to Dicky!

... exercise bike, rowing machine, resistance machine or such like so we took the opportunity to have a quick workout in the fresh air, overlooking the river. It certainly would encourage me to exercise much more than the Village gym in Leeds, however, the fabulous waterfront properties here look as though they would cost more than we’d save on our gym membership! We called at Mooloolaba but the very helpful woman at the Visitor Information Centre ...

... views of the Glasshouse mountains and the coastline. We then had a wander around a protected rainforest where we kept hearing Whipbirds once again and also saw some massive oaks! We then went into Montville for some delicious grub (the biggest portion of wedges I have ever seen it almost stumped me!) and some boutique browsing. Last thing on the agenda was a trek down to Kandilla falls which turned out to be ...

Gold Coast and Moreton Island

Dann gab es Lunch (Burger, was sonst!).

Tangle with the dolphins

... the risk of cross contamination and then in small groups we entered the water. There was a member of staff there with us as well as the duitiful photographer whilst we hand fed 2 dolphins, one of which a first time mum with a baby waiting in the background. It was an amazing experience to be in such close proximity to these wonderful creatures. The 6 of us had smiles on our faces for the next few days, not even the weather could dampen our spirits.

Back to Brisbane & Moreton Island

Grant, Kim, Joe, Michelle and Myself all went on a trip to Moreton island for the weekend. Here's the lowdown - what we done and about the island! It's simular to Fraser Island - I reccomend it to anyone with a 4x4 and to those who love an adventure and enjoyed Fraser. Moreton island is less commersialised, the only difference is that it has a resort on a section of the island near where the ferry comes in, but if you don't want to stay at the resort you can ignore ...

Steve Irwin's AWESOME Australia Zoo!

Our destination for today - Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. After stopping at a camping shop to buy a new gas bottle (our old one had lasted us the entire time we've been in Aus!) we realised that it was so old, and hadn't been changed for so long, that they have stopped making them completely and we had to get a brand new size which, of course, wasn't going to fit! We ended ...

And when it rains, it rains

So it's been raining a lot lately. Central Queensland is still fairly flooded (which was ironically my first choice in where I wanted to attend originally until I changed my mind and decided to come to the Sunshine Coast instead). Here on Tuesday we accumulated more rain in one day then the area recieved altogether last year. I've discovered two delicious joys which you ...

An End Before the End

... efforts and expense that had gone into the field season, in return for no pay save a line of acknowledgement in any resultant paper, meant everything to me. This, along with a disquiet that had grown in the pit of my stomach all along the field season, that had earlier been superceded and overwhelmed by the awe-inspiring beauty of the landscape and the fascinating characters of the bowerbirds themselves, proved too much. I had to leave. The other three ...

... it down and finding a compromise so I don't have to sacrifice one enjoyment at the expense of another. What I Learned Today: In 1996 Goran Knapp packed his gear, rode his bike from Sweden to Kathmandu, hiked to base camp and then climbed to within 300 feet of the summit of Mount Everest only to turn back because the snow wasn't quite right for safe passage to the peak. That's determination with the knowledge of when to quit.
