... as the army doctor bringing the patients!

The patients work with the AMISON – the African Military In Somalia – and their doctor charges for me to ask me what has taken us so long. These patients are so sick, and they have another 6 patients who need to be evacuated! I tell her to bring this up with the office and we will do what we can.

Luckily she has only brought the two I was expecting. I half thought she was ...
Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania judigalea... to the lodge, we will stop at Mzima Springs, where the water coming down from Kilimanjaro gets into the surface and is the beginning of the river flowing that leads to Mombasa. Some hippos and crocodiles, and a little room built under the water, with big glasses to see (theoretically) crocodiles and hippos swimming. The only thing we can see are some Nile perchs. A short walk here, and we go ...
Tsavo National Park West, Kenya josep7778... Female Genital Mutilation). It is such a brutal and devastating practice. I hope that one day it will no longer be practiced. Anyhow, we walked the grounds of the lodge and we saw a couple of Dik Diks. We didn't see any monkeys here, but I'm sure they were around somewhere! We had an afternoon game drive and we seen a group of lions! There were the young males and several babies! We seen a fresh, half eaten cub that didn't survive. The momma lion ate it. Our guide ...
Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya skisinco... more geared up for the tourists. When we arrived we met the head of the village, who then called the men to perform their traditional dance - this was great until they asked us to join in! At this point it felt a bit too cheesy, but off we went and joined in the dance...I won't be giving up my day job - oops I don't actually have one at the moment!! ;o) Here is a video clip...not with me in it!! Then he took us inside the ...
Tsavo, Kenya vjgemini... pics once the baboons had left. - Underwear change one!! The game drives so far have been absolutely excellent and every bit as good as I remembered them to be. Have seen loads of elephants, giraffe's and antelope, only saw one lion yesterday but 6 today ready to hunt. Just as we were heading back to the camp we heard that there were 10 spotted near our camp but we didn't see them. Bearing this fact in mind, we had forgotten that some of the ...
Tsavo, Kenya vjgemini... families with mentally-physically handicapped children that cannot make it to the villages due to money problems or disability. Kenya is not exactly disability and friendly certainly wouldn't comply with DDA requirements in UK or Ireland!!! We visit them, talk with them about any problems they are experiencing and do the best we can to make a better life for them. For my experience the main problem these families are facing is discrimination and then poverty. Due to poverty a lot ...
Kisayani, Kenya bcoughlanKilaguni is stunning the best of the 3 lodges by a distance - on arrival we were met by the usual JAMBO and cold towels to refresh ourselves. A 5* hotel in the middle of the bush. Sat for hours watching the waterhole. All sorts of animals came and went. The highlight was a ...
Tsavo West, Kenya chrislewis7... meat from the tree apparatus! Another highlight was the porcupines who came to be fed by the restaurant. Those things are bigger, spikier and more far more impressive than I could ever believe. I thought the Voi Lodge was good, but Ngulia Lodge was better.
Tsavo West, Kenya chrislewis7... nastiest, and smallest of the camels. Mom had Mriff -- the oldest and the tamest. Ann and I had Joe. We drove down to the Salt Lick after lunch. We saw impala, hartabeasts, dik-diks, and five elephant. Plus a few gazelles. Back at the lodge, we explored the tunnel and the roof. There were only a few bush buck and a waterbuck. Then a few giraffes and an impala. We took our cha to our rooms after dinner. I read for a while, then sleep.
Tsavo, Kenya ahartryWe got our own rental car today and drove to Tsavo. When we came to a place with vendors, Mom and Dad and Ann bought things while I talked to some people. Later, Mom told us that Jomo Kenyatta died. It was strange, because we had just been talking about what might happen when he died. Then we got to the park and went to the hotel for dinner. They had already closed the restaurant, but they gave us a loaf of bread. All the campsites were taken, so we just camped in the middle.
