From Erzincan to Divrigi we travel along a small river on a small road. The valley is shared with a small railroad and the street and the bed of the river sometimes compete for space. The river has at times created its way through the rock leaving small and middle sized canyons.
In the middle of our way there was a nice little tomb in form of two towers ...
... we cannot risk too much.
Behind the mountains there is again the high plateau of Anatolia and more mountains with more passes. The snow was really concentrated along the first range behind Trabzon. These mountains are known to receive lots of rain and snow.
We stop at a little side place where they offer fresh lamb chops by the kilo ...
... All of us went up to the summit twice: one for the sunset and one for the sunrise in the following morning. Since one of the terraces of statues is facing east and the other facing west, we could also appreciate them under the most dramatic and favorite lights too The site is small and it didn’t take long to see all of them, but it may take ones much longer to reflect on the meanings of toppled and eroded statues of kings and gods.
Malatya, Malatya, Turkey chan_hc... see the site.
Rather, I just hung out in the terminal for about a half an hour after spotting a bus with a sign in the front window indicating it was going to Elazığ.
There was one main scenic sight as we passed Hazar Gölu (Hazar Lake) just before arriving in Elazığ.
Coming into town from the otogar I asked the bus driver--or that is, I said to the bus driver in my simple Turkish that I wanted a certain hotel. He nodded. At the city ...
... to have the same touch with sea towns [or any other, I would add] as Spaniards, Italians, Greeks and Provencals. Here, on this southern coast, no one has bothered at all to make the best of the exquisite settings. The locals look at the blue mountains behind, the silky bay before them and say, 'çok güzel', but they make no effort to enjoy them in aesthetic or even comfortable conditions....
I am sure the Turks really love their beautiful country and would kill or die for it ...
sometimes it gets boring to travel. you don't find it interesting to travel. even when you see somthing really exotic, it doesn't give much inspiration. I also had this kind of feeling when i was travelling in Turkey after 20 days on the mediterranean sides of Turkey, i got bord. but when i arrived in Malatya to get to Nemrut Dagi(Mt.Nemrut), i fall in love with this lovely ...
Malatya, Malatya, Turkey dabo... has helped that the very friendly tourist man, Kamal, has helped us figure out how to get to Mt Nemrut and given us a very humours welcoming to the town. We have wandered around the markets and gotten fruit and veggies for free (they wouldn't take our money) and also tried some apricots (what this place is famous for). We are now getting rady for the drive, Kamal tells us we are crazy to do it in our car, we will break down he tells us, well we will see! Miles so far:
Malatya, Turkey laine... for our transportation to Mt Nemrut, we spent some time wandering the bazaar and market of the city and were overwhelmed by the friendliness of the people here. They kept giving us fruit by the handful up until the point where we had half a bag full of apricots and nectarines. We also got some great pictures which we'll share with you in this entry. Enjoy! Malatya, Turkey jon_and_lizFor this trip we flew to England and purchased a small sail boat. From there we crossed the English channel and went up the Seine river to Paris. Then on various rivers and canals to the Mediterranean sea. We spent a few weeks there and then toke the Canal Midi to the Atlantic ocean and took the boat back to England. The full trip is a slide show at: http://www.fortunecity.com/oasis/monaco /458/CanalTrip85.html
Portsmouth, Paris, Calvi, Bordeaux, St Peters Port, United Kingdom asailor... Ian is still jumping up and down. We tell him to walk a little bit away from the site so that we can take a better look. We walk for a bit and I can hear him mumble and not too happy. We stop and he takes his shirt off and sure enough, there's this white spot developing on his back. He tells me to open up his pack and take some Benadryl out for him to take. I grab the backpack and give him a couple. He wants more, so I give him another one. Two minutes later he ...
