... loves riding the bus. I think it's the big windows that give him a bigger vantage than normal. He was glued to the window taking in the sights and calling out the vehicles he spotted. Initially I was disappointed having to add a bus ride to the itinerary, but since we opted not to drive it was the only way up. This morning we head off to Hakone, about 80 min train ride away from Tokyo, to stay in a traditional Japanese inn (ryokan). Hakone is located in Japan's Fuji National Park known for hot spring resorts and Mt Fuji views. At least we are told there are good views of Mt Fuji, not that it ever made an appearance for us. We were up earlier today as we had to pack a day bag and make arrangements to get the rest of our bags to be shipped to our hotel in Kyoto. The tour company printed the instructions for shipping our bags in Japanese so the guy at the front desk understood exactly what we wanted and where they needed to go which was nice. We had the western breakfast again today as I still didn't feel like braving the rice porridge. I have a feeling there will be many more opportunities ...

... girls go to the shrine to receive a blessing and then boys go again at age 5 and girls at age 7. They were rather cute! From there we went on to the Japanese art gallery which had magnificent views of Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. Next step was the trip across the lake in a pirate ship - Jonny Depp could have been on board.
