... Everywhere there's lots of construction of buildings and new streets going on. The country really seems to be moving fast forward; no wonder their GDP is exceeding all other countries.
Just outside of town are the Western Hills, a mountain range next to Dian Lake. Between 1780 - 1835 some Taoist monks hacked steps and tunnels into the rock cliffs. So, we spent a day exploring the grottoes, pavilions and paths leading up the mountain or going straight through the rock.
... it has everything that we would expect, but the walls were just plain cream and somehow it lacked the style and character of our previous hotels.
We met Steven at 18.30 and he took us to the restaurant for our evening meal. This was very different from the Chinese food we have experienced so far. One dish was a type of local cheese (it looked like small thin pieces of cheese on toast). Also we had a dish of a kind of mashed potato ...
... everything else! At least I know there’s one thing that I won’t be trying...for now anyway!
In the ‘west’ we eat our soup before the main meal, but here it’s the other way round. You might have a main meal of rice with various meats, or beef noodle soup and afterwards you will still get a soup. Most of the soups are weirdly cloudy looking and will have a few small lumps of ‘something’ floating ...

Due to flight delayed in Singapore and miss connecting flight to Lijiang, Silkair placed us in this hotel for a night free. Was staying in a suit and room was good. Went for dinner and realised it was still about 20 mins (in the cold) walk to Kunming main shopping and food strip.
