Teaching Pictures

Hello All,

A while back the local newspaper wanted to do an article on English Conversational teachers in my province. It just happens to be that my school got chosen! The article was published and with the help of my cooperating teacher I was able to find a copy on the Internet. I understand that it is in Korean and you are unable to read it. However, I thought you would like the photos. Some action photos of my grade 10's and the ...

... not die before class ended. I hope she didn't die when she went home.

At the end of class one girl told me she comes to Chung Dahm four days each week (the classes are 3 hours long). Parents send their kids to class long hours. It is normal for a Korean student to go to school from 7am-3pm and then academies from 4pm to 10pm. They even go to academies on weekends. I know because I teach on Saturdays! It's pretty crazy. I guess that's why the Friday 7-10 pm class is the worst.

The first few days in Daegu

... days after you return before you can work around children, which means to go home I would need two weeks off which would be impossible to get off. I'm only allowed to have 10 days off for the year. I'm not sure how this is going to work. I'm hoping the Swine flu thing will die down and I won't have to wait nine days after returning to start working.

Anyways, I'm going to try to put pictures of my apartment and school up on fb if you're interested! Come visit me!
Day 13- Parting with and Old Friend

... and probably trying to pick up a few new dance moves. I will never know. As for the girl, I wish I could of say that we spent the rest of the night partying together but in the end I lost her. Roy warned me about getting drunk and seeing all these Korean women and not being able to differentiate them. It is definitely true. Most of them are short ...

The good, the bad, and the really ugly...

Since the devastatingly horrific PIFF film, things have been pretty awesome here. A group of us started to go to the JimJill Bong every Friday night. For those of you who don't know what that is, I walk you through a night in the life of a regular at the JimJill Bong... Hand the front desk between 5,000 and 10,000 won. Take the locker key, towels, and uniform (consisting of shorts and a t-shirt) that they give you. Say thank you, preferably in Korean (com-sam-i-da; sound it ...

How time flies!

Its been a few weeks since I last updated this blog, but it feels like a life time has passed! I seem to have settled into a good routine here now! Things are going really well at my school. I am getting used to the students, and them to me! I get on really well with all the teachers, and we have a lot of fun! Every lunch time I sit in a room for the 'young' women! Men have their own room, and the older ladies have taken over the womens room ...

First steps

... forcing myself to stay awake and soak it all up. Andy met me at the bus station and took me back to his place, a familiar mess, and a familiar face! It was amazing to see him again and catch up. For the first few days I struggled to get myself into a routine and get over my jetlag. It was not helped by several late nights in a row! I met up with old friends and ate lots of Korean food! I met new people and made new friends, the way you do when ...

Daegu, South Korea

... experience regarding food was met in Daegu. We ordered according to the plastic portions in the window and my portion looked really good with chilli sauce and vegetables. And with the little balls that looked like mussles. After tasting one it popped ion my mouth and liquid came out of it. And it sure didnt taste like a mussle. We assume the "balls" were fish eyes or something similar. Yak!! That's Daegu and fish eyeballs.. N

Haeinsa temple stay

... the Tripitaka Koreana: which also known as the Goryo Buddhist canon, in one word, one of the most significant complete Buddhist sacred texts. We arrived in the afternoon just in time to participate to the first ceremony and to discover the temple. We had our first meal in the temple, currently very good even if vegetarian: all the meal in the temples are vegetarian as the monk cannot kill any animals ( Buddhism). When the monk show ...

Korea makes me laugh!!

... Christian, 25% Buddhist. Thus we get 1 day off for Xmas day and one day off for Buddha's birthday. However the lantern festival is held the weekend before Buddha's birthday.). The procession lasts around 3 hours and there's loads of activities to do all over Seoul. I'm really excited to see everything. It's lovely that South Korea has so much culture and traditional things that they want show off and teach to people. I hope you are all well!! Let me know what's happening with you!! xxxxxxx
