      ... of the region of Loiret Department. It has a rich history amongst it being that Joan of Arc stormed the city and liberated it from the Plantagenets in 1429 during the Hundred Year's War. The city's inhabitants were so grateful that they contributed to her ransom when she was taken prisoner. She was later however burned at the stake in 1431 at the age of just 19. The city recovered its prosperity after that war and became a centre for the study of law.
