    ... Following our leisurely jaunt around pigeon island we noticed that we had developed a problem. Our main hallyard (the rope that pulls up the main sail and keeps it up) sheath was beginning to fray.     ... the route was being repaired and so there were replacement mini vans. Que waiting for another hour for the next 'bus'. This one took us half way to the next major town where we would change buses to get to the rain forest. piece by piece we were putting together the transport network of the island.

    ... Throw into the mix falling mangoes, the occasional chicken, goat, locals who are either hitchhiking or enjoying an afternoon stroll (there are no sidewalks) and getting behind the wheel is quite the adventure. As in France, most cars are small (thankfully) and manual (driving a small automatic car with all of the steep hills would be a nightmare). Fortunately, Mum was up for the challenge!

    ... as we wanted at another beautiful bay on the south of the island. We were also able to see the one and only very large 'Stop’ sign on the island. We drove past the miniature Sugar Loaf mountain, where apparently a maximum of thirteen people can fit on the beach, so you have to get there early to get a spot!

    I think it is very special that we have come to Guadeloupe for our holiday. I call Abigail "my little butterfly" and Guadeloupe is referred to as the butterfly island due to the fact that the shape of the main island is like a butterfly. Yes, Guadeloupe is Abigail's special island.
