After breakfast in Colmar we set out for the Montagne des Singes, or monkey mountain. R wanted to interact with the residents. It was only about 30mins drive, into the Vosges Mountains just to the west. There are 200 Barbary macaques all roaming free, and you get to walk around with a handful of popcorn feeding them. It actually was fun. Just don't put the popcorn in your pocket. Monkeys have sharp claws and emasculation can result, ...

... some food he’d bought from the supermarket. We sat there eating bread with ham and cheese, grapes, apples and cone shaped pastry shells filled with custard. It was quite delicious. It was so peaceful sitting up there too and pretty with the green grass and wildflowers growing everywhere. We saw a couple of paragliders pass down below, through the valley. There were a few houses scattered in the valley as well. I wondered what the people who live up here ...

... Hôtel D's breakfast room, we saddled up the ponies to do an early morning ride through the streets of Strasbourg again and to find the start of our new cycle route, the Eurovélo 15. This route goes from the Swiss Alps to the North Sea in the Netherlands a distance of 1230 km. We would be cycling the Rhine Cycle Route portion of this from Strasbourg, France north to Mainz, Germany and then hopefully finding a route to ...
