South Vietnam to Cambodia

... Buddhism or Christianity he returned us safely back in the town. payed the agreed amount and the cab driver was most concerned for our safety during the rest of the day. Sampled some excellent t local food in a restaurant nearby the drop off point. The only slightly disconcerting feature was the pair of rats(looking extremely healthy) running around between the tables. Still they didn't affect the quality of the food , some really spicy and ...

Lola still stayed awake until 5:00am. So far everything is going great aside from the sleep problems that will eventually go away. We are planning on catching a bus in the morning that will take us to Siem Reap Cambodia to meet upwith a friend and tour Ankor Wat for a few days.

... bientot Annie Today. we went out to buy one of those walker thing. Lyam needs to walk and be stimulated. He does get himself around on all fours. BUT he is so heavy that he needs to be walking around on his own. Mya pushes him around and she loves him. His sister is very possessive of him. She overprotects him. She wraps her arms around him when strangers approaches us and tell us not to let them take him away. She plays with him, shares her stuff ...

... Tavern' and its a pub for Vietnam Vets. Its the only place overseas that sells pies. they had about 10 different types, either home made or imported 'Vinnies' pies from OZ. so of course we had one with mash potatoes and peas! I spoke to the owner as well for a while, about how long he has been here etc and he said that alot of children of Vietnam Vets have come to Vung Tau to have a look, they even have a wall that the Vets can add ...

May 25, 2007 Saigon, Vietnam Saigon is just a big Asian city. Not much to do here, actually, except eat (not that there's anything wrong with that). The traffic is ridiculous - there are at least 4 million motorbikes (population about 5 million) and they're all on the road at the same time. Intersections are amazing - traffic just weaves through - no accidents. Crossing the road is an art - you just have to hold you r breath and walk slowly ...

Uncle Ho's City

... fighting in the narrow, dank tunnels was unbelievably determined. The tunnel site also houses a firing range (above ground), which added a bizarre automatic weapons fire soundtrack to the visit. At the firing range you can shoot weapons such as an AK-47, M-60 or a .45. It costs $1 per bullet and the Europeans were lining up pop off some rounds since they have such strict gun laws in their home countries. Word on the street is that the firing ranges ...

... way, regardless of how right or wrong we were to be there, was horrifying and eye-opening. The history books are always written from the American's perspective. The Cu Chi tunnels? They're the other side of the story. Our tour guide showed us a map of all the miles of tunnels, taking 20 years in all to dig out by hand, and we had a chance to crawl through them. I wanted to imagine what it was like back then, what it took to just be inside them, let alone ...

... two hour flight to Hanoi was only the beginning of our traveling for the day. Qhuan (pronounced qwa) was to be our guide for the trip - he grew up in Hanoi but had family that still lived in Mai Chau - the village we would ultimately end up in. The five hour bus drive North North West from Hanoi lead us through every terrain Vietnam has to offer. We started in a major tourist city that lead out into small suburbs dotted with falling down shacks and huge French buildings, our into ...

Things Heat up in Saigon

... to a great day. Our last day in Vietnam was another full day of vendor meetings. At the WECA office we met with Artex followed by Najimex who both specialize in bamboo products. Over the next few hours I learn a great deal about the process of farming, processing and producing bamboo goods. It's interesting to hear more details about the ecological value of bamboo, as it is a highly plentiful resource and grows 50 to 100 times faster than most other woods. We ...
