Fantastic breakfast - but so early! As we are away on our travels to the Mekong Delta by 0700 - ahhhhhhh!!!!! First stop the Chi Chi Tunnels which was one of the main reasons for coming to the south and it didn't disappoint. We have a fab car at last! So much space - luxury! Stopped on way to Chi Chi at rubber plantations. Chi Chi was amazing - quite a lot of propaganda films giving the side we have not seen - ie anti USA - very interesting - brings some balance to what we have seen before. L...
can tho, Vietnam andrewslGOOD MORNING VIETNAM!! Yea, well that phrase has not been overused since we got here. (and yes that is sarcasm). But so far, Vietnam has been great. The first day here, I went shopping. And surprisingly did not buy all that much, just some DVDs, a pair of flip flops and a hat. Oh, and we also bought some fabric, went to a tailor, and designed some dressed to be made. Mine should be pretty cool and I get to pick it up on Friday. I figured since I pretty much bought all of India, I should keep ...

We me may be able to download more entries tonite. We appear to have licked part of our computer problem and are in a hotel with a wire connection as opposed to WiFi which has been killing us. Enough about that already. We are in Can Tho in southern Vietnam, the largest city in the Mekong Delta area. We traveled by car (I did not drive) from Saigon (Hi Chi Minh City) this morning. The trip down took about 7 hours including our stops. Our route this morning was on the new Vietnam Route 1 which...

Can Tho, Vietnam meclayt... from the banks, conical hatted women cutting water hyacinth , which is used to make a variety of things from slippers to baskets. We passed under the huge freedom bridge, built with the help of Australia. As we got nearer to Sa Dec we saw brick factories - looking a little like smoking brick oast houses, alongside rice refineries. It seems the two industries are symbiotic, the clay dug out to make the rice paddies is used to make bricks and ...
Sa Ðéc, Ã'á»"ng Tháp, Vietnam emmaandpaul... Once on the otherside, the motos took us to HA Tien's bus stop. Now the true conning game began. We had literally just got there when moto drivers rushed towards us, stating there were no buses to our destination (we didn't even know exactly where we were heading so this was quite suprising for them to know that). "Thankfully" they would be able to assist us as they can take us to another bus stop where the bus will be leaving very ...
Can Tho, Vietnam leannemedland... have the helmet. The wife and 2 kids on some of the scooters were obviously expendable. Once on the boat we crossed over the Lower River AKA Hau Giang AKA Bassac River! It's a good old size and there were plenty of ferries taking people and the vehicles across. This is all to change though soon as there was a mightily impressive suspension bridge going up. Just the 2 main support towers were finished really and I think our boat driver said they had been working on it for ...
