Bodrum Peninsula, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey ronamaltz... stagnant water/mud... There was a heated pool to the side and people were 'quite literally' being hosed down before they were allowed to get in (various pool attendants took turns at holding the hose!!)...
When I returned the boat, we had been joined by an organised tour and a lunch of chicken curry (that famous Turkish cuisine!!) was served, whilst we sailed around we passed a couple of ...
I was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
I hate coming to places that have been ruined by tourism. Marmaris in Turkey is one such place. I have absolutely loved Turkey - fantastic people, interesting cities and some of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The sole exception was Marmaris, which whilst not a bad experience can be used to explain the negative things that happen when an area goes too far into the tourist market place.
So is a touristy area a bad thing? Not ...

Amazing synchronicity.
And just like a tiny needle can deflate a giant balloon with a little prick, these few lines deflated the raging mind chatter. It seems like mind storms --I guess like any other storm-- have an innate rhythm: they pick up speed, reach a roaring peak and then, almost out of nowhere, die ...
... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.
Marmaris, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey davechrisdamo... I really liked it. Of course, as with so many of these ancient holy places, one of the best preserved statues from the Acropolis was not there...it was in a German museum in Berlin, having been taken, at some point, I can't remember when, unfortunately.
Pergamum features the steepest Roman theater in the world, built into the side of the hill. It is estimated that it held 14,000 people, which is how the estimate of a total population of roughly 140,000 ...
4th Day - SAILING TO BODRUM or ALIKARNASOS
Our ship -MARIA- leaves the port at 9.15 sharp.
We are sailing for 50 minutes before reaching the port. The sea is calm today and the trip is enjoyable.
The funny thing was that we were told that the trip to Bodrum costs 25 euro a person -two way ticket- , but we got ours for just 39 euro.
The best way is to go directly to the ship and ask for the cost instead of booking through ...

An irony was--well, two, actually--I began the hike/climb at the base where there was a sign indicating the beginning of a segment of the Lycian Way (http://www.lycianway.com/index.html). I hiked up the trail a short way to a point that, marked by a power line pylon, I thought was at the base of the "cleared" up slope line. I ...
... of us, the perfect number for a 70ft yacht, although they pack 16 on during the high season, whew, lucky us! Immediately, we all became acquainted and settled in to this luxurious lifestyle. Our first destination was the picturesque beach of Oludeniz. We anchored in a cove off the beach where we could dive and snorkel without anyone else around. No one really needed sand since we had the plush lounge cushions on the boat deck to lie on. Funny how once we left the main land, none ...
