Our sailing adventure

... only one very large fan. We decided to purchase it, and it was a great help to us that night. After that we referred to our cabin as the “luxury suite”

The next day we headed to the island of Poros. We finally put our sails for a little while that day and used that in combination with our motor to make our way there.

We arrived at the next dock and discovered that we could not hook up to electricity because we did not have a good cable for it. After a ...

the frustrations of the Peloponnese

... available room I'd find, I'd take, no matter the price. The first room was $50euro...forget it! too high. I trudged onwards. Eventually, I found a room for $30euro and took it, totally exhausted and sweaty, and desperate to just drop my bags. I was upset with the price I had to pay for a room by myself, as I was paying for a double bed rather than a single, but atleast it wasn't $50, and the night before in Nafplio was cheap, at $10euro/night in a 4 ...

Volcanic Smells and Kamikaze Charterers

... in strong winds at about mid-day on Sunday and then relaxed and watched the boats arriving. As the afternoon progressed droves of boats appeared and the horror began! As yachts turned up we noticed that they were nearly all charter boats on the first day of their holiday. One approached the pontoon , put his anchor down far too near to the berth and promptly arrived sideways on. I helped them get off and saw them go to the other side of ...

Athens

Today we were in Athens. Our tour didn't start until 1:00 PM. We wanted to go into town early and meet up with the excursion, but they told us we couldn't do that. So we had a leisurely morning on the ship. Since the climb up the Acropolis to see the Parthenon was going to be too strenuous for us, we decided to take the ancient Athens, Plaka and shopping tour. Even though we left at 1:00 ...

Rest of Greece

... Cant really complain can I? Santorini: Took over as favourite I think. Accomodation was even better as they had an extremely nice manager there, and it was the quitest place yet. + you got alot for your money. As Ive said, my birthday there was awesome. Actually I think Ive already written about it all? Either way - great place! Ios: Just another Mykonos, but with better accom. We learnt our lesson and upgraded, but ...

Plataria to Athens

Worke up at 6:30 to dark looming clouds over the sea. It began thundering, lightning and pouring rain as soon as we were finished cleaning the boats. The bus ride to Athens was very wet and dreary. Our picnic lunch was less than enjoyable at the side of the road. We stopped for an hour at the Corinthe Canal, a manmade channel carved into the ithmus of the Corinthe peninsula ...

Giving Thanks to Poseidon

... what ferry, how many ferries there are for where your going, what day they leave, do they go to the island you want to go to next. All these questions I was finding very difficult to answer, so only one solution... A temple visit! Cape Sounion, an hour and a half bus ride south east of Athens, hosts one of the most wonderful look out points onto the Mediterranean, but also the Temple of Poseidon. Watching the sun set on this temple from ...

Farewell Greece!

... 0, and proud of it! If I could live anywhere in Greece for the rest of my life I would live in: Santorini Best Dessert: A crepe with nutella, applesauce, and cinnamon. Biggest rip-off: 5 euro for a slice of pizza at the airport at Sbarro. Am I still bitter about this? Yes Biggest regret: Not buying an AEK Athens scarf Coolest connection with someone Greek: 1. The Albanian owner of ...

Futbol!

Wow, I have no idea where to begin. The stadium ended up not being sold out, so we were able to go to a soccer game yesterday. All ten of us had tickets, but four of us got there an hour before the game started. It was a cross-town rivalry game, with AEK Athens playing some guys from Athens in green. Our hotel guy had help set us up with the game, and instructed us, "Don't wear yellow or green." So I donned my black winter jacket with blue jeans, as I figured it ...

Athene

This will probably be a more literal entry then most. Athens did my head in, and im certainly not in a philisophic frame of mind. Spent my first night in the port of Piraeus as my ferry got in quite late. The trip took a little over 10 hours, but was very nice as it weaved between the Cycladic Islands, passing Ios, Naxos and whatnot. Piraeus was rather dark and sleazy, as most ports are i guess. Didnt really venture from my room much so i didnt really see much ...
