Travel Blogs from Dar es Salaam

Hujambo, Tanzania!

A travel blog entry by zoeandnick

After our first experience of a five-star airline (I was embarrassingly over-delighted by the free socks and was so impressed with the food that I actually wanted to ask them for the recipe for their mashed potato), and a quick change of flights in Doha, we arrived in Dar Es Salaam on Monday afternoon.

It's an interesting city with lots …

The loss and the return of my passport.

A travel blog entry by matt746

After nine years of travel something has finally happened to me. I have had my passport stolen from my bag while walking on the street. After all these years of walking down dark alleyways and in the wrong part of town (sometimes in a questionable state) I have finally had my passport stolen from my bag in broad daylight on a crowded …

Back to Dar Es Salaam

A travel blog entry by paddyfetherston

We arrived back to Dar Es Salaam with the plan of organizing a train to Malawi. The train is 24 hours and travels through a national park for part of the journey. It has been something we have been looking forward to for a number of weeks, so we were both gutted to hear that the train is booked up for the next 10 days.

After the …

Basic good clean place to stay. Any easy walk to the city center and great showers. It's not the ritz but has a good vibe.

    Cement boxes

As far as hotel rooms go, Safari Inn's rooms are below average - though not unacceptable - but really just cement boxes with a bed and a fan. The price was much more than anywhere else we'd paid, but of course being in the capital we expected to pay more. They had a TV for guests to use - but we found that the staff were always watching something instead. If you want cheap, it's a good bet compared to other places nearby. If I were to go back to Dar, I'd stay at the YWCA.
