Tiwi, Coast, Kenya miles1... pick us up was there waiting for us. He could have easily got sick of waiting and then we would have been in real trouble as according to the guide book bus stations are most commonly the scene of muggings, robberies and pickpocketing incidents. Our troubles weren't over though because there was still gridlock in the city centre. Our taxi driver Steve drove around for an hour trying various roads only to find them at a standstill. We eventually got lucky and found a ...
Ukunda, Kenya alandrach... I decide to take a leap for safety - good move Bailey; I survive with a sprained wrist and watch as my Camel heads off into the Sunset (with no owner)! Guess that was his flee for freedom..... No problem; lot's to do and lot's to see or so I thought...................... Back to the bar and a little G & T to take the edge off my slightly wary nerves; the heat is now 38 degrees and the humidity somewhere between treating yourself to a gust of ...
Ukunda, Zanzibar Archipelago, Kenya amandab9375... tentacle stings per attack.... So lets do the math.... Probably at least 200 individual stings. So the snorkeling was really painfull for me.... Not to mention how freaking rough the ocean was. I was getting sea sick... while swimming. Incredible. All I wanted to do was get the H out of the water... but noone else seemed to be being bothered by the j-fish (of course not.... Noone would be as fun to sting as me). Eventually I swam back to the boat, freaking out the ...
Mombasa, Kenya ayack... see what has changed. I'm not expecting a lot, but there will be lots of little things to notice, that I am sure of. Yesterday I turned on my cell phone to add someone's phone number from the trip, and I realised that I had no idea how to use it anymore. I was also going through my bag to get out the remaining durhams I have (the currency in Dubai) and found some loonies and toonies - haven't seen those in a few months. Time will tell ...
Mombasa, Kenya todoconfidel... London. The name escapes me but it was about the illegal organ trade and this African guy (Somali/Ethiopian I think) was working 23 hours a day as a taxi driver and hotel concierge, trying to make ends meet, and as a result he had to chew the Miraa to stay awake. Miraa is also known as Khat, the product of an evergreen tree native to East Africa, Afghanistan and Yemen. Chewing the small twigs and leaves has become an increasingly popular pastime ...
Mombassa, Kenya dcm... masala chips and veggie chapati. Islam and India meet Afrika in all its Judeo-Christian glory here on the Swahili coast. I think everyone can tell that I'm Amerikan, but I don't tell anybody. I think the people here are aware of how Islam is bad-mouthed in the western media, and so they go to great lengths to make every western visitor feel welcome. The peace here is protected by the spirit of the people.
