... clear the snow from my shoe and I got a bit bogged and off balance so landed in the snow. Where it is very soft, it was harder but most of the parts we walked were quite ok. Partway through we stopped for a hot drink and a biscuit. Our guide made a seat in the snow and gave us plastic sheets to sit on which kept a tiny bit of the chill out of the bottom. The Onsen was about 39 degrees and right next to it was a freezing cold pool that looked like it has not been used in a while because it was covered in ice and snow. Talia and I were dipping our toes and fingers in the cold pool and as soon ...

Today Erin and I took a day trip to Shiga Kogen and Nozowa Onsen. Our first stop at Shiga Kogen was to visit the snow monkeys. When we arrived the heavens opened and it snowed heavily adding to the experience. Our next stop was the annual fire festival. It was something else! Free sake, men on burning platforms and fireworks, probably best wrapped up as a traditional Japanese version of the burning man festival. Cold and snowing the whole time though everyone on the tour had a great ...
