    Found cockroach in bed ...

Outside this complex the place is crawling with cockroaches and beetles. Some of the roomdoors are not good enough connected with the ground, so those animals can easily walk into the rooms.

We found a dead cockroach in one of the beds and we went to the lady at the desk who gave us another room instead. This one was ok. So the staff was willing to help, that was great. Also when we forgot our keys in our car and they where willing to make the call to the locksmith, which we really appreciated.

The rooms are of good size and the bathroom is nice too. Some rooms got WIFI and a fridge. Conclusion: rooms and staff are good, but we won't come back here cause of (dead) insects in the room(s).

    1 night in Pahrump

The room was well sized and pretty comfy for what we needed. We got there a little late for food and there was little in the way of vegetarian options for my travelling companion (we went to Taco Bell instead). Not to say that the food was bad, I couldn 't judge as we didn't eat there.

It's a hotel/casino deal which is all good as the rooms are located quite a way from the casino itself, but not too far for you to walk comfortably.

We slept well in the beds, my only complaint was (and this seemed to go for everywhere we stayed) that the towels were really small, like large hand towels. Bit odd considering there's a shower in there that they obviously expect you to use.

The staff were friendly and accommodating and the grounds were well kept and looked nice. We didn't use the pool but only cos we were there after it shut for the evening.

We arrived in Pahrump to be greeted with a large billboard displaying the mug of some Latino dick wanted for murdering a local woman there some time ago. This was the biggest wanted poster I've ever seen, the dude on it was proper ugly too. It did make us wonder what we were getting into a little bit as it definitely seemed to be another red neck …

... in the areas with another person dying in the floods. The ground water was particularly evident at Death Valley Junction were there were sandbags still around the buildings and people were still clearing up. There was even water on the lower parts of the road on the way to Pahrump. It seems so strange to have temps of 100F but as there is no moisture in the air, it doesn't seem to evaporate and the ground is so hard it isn't absorbed. When we arrived at the Best Western at Pahrump ...

... 1.3 mile trail. It was easier than the first, but again, the elevation made it harder and more tiring than we are used to. And, while the trail markers were good in the beginning, after about mile, we didn’t see anymore. It also seemed like it was taking us in the opposite direction than we needed to go. It was Friday the 13th, we had no map of this trail, and no cell service. All we ...
