Estonia's Summer Capital.

I let the tent dry out a little after we got up. The kids had a go at archery, using one bow and six arrows. The manager supervised them for about 20 minutes, before he got bored. I could sense his growing realisation, that the arrow arcing into the ground six feet away, was likely to be the best shot of the day.

We headed for Pärnu, a pretty seaside town, ten minutes away. Nick scared the wits out of a Polish lorry driver by trying to turn the wrong way up a ...

Adventurous Camping

Jöekääru Adventure Camp is not quite what it seems. Its advertising boasts of corporate facilities, an adventure park, archery, kayaking, paint-balling and a climbing wall. In reality, it is a quiet but pleasant campsite with a play area for the children. It is probably more suited to us, than the all singing, all dancing campsite it pretends to be.

To be fair, it does have at least one of each of the items it claims to have, but they are not exactly in mint ...

The 1st day.

... first pictures in front of Kersti's house, bought some water cause all the signs showed it was going to be a hot day, and started walking towards the suburbs. First car driver, heard that we didn't take a tent for this big adventure, was kind enough to offer his tent to us. It also turned out that his mother had been given Kersti some lectures about social sciences in university. A few ...

In Pärnu

We arrived in Strand Spa and Conference hotel in Pärnu and found out that I booked the room for next weekend, not this one. Woops. Well, luckily they had some rooms available and we got one for 50% of the price which I would have to pay via eBookers. The room was 46 EUR when paid in the hotel itself, 78 EUR via eBookers. The room was of the same type and same services were included, so I guess I wouldn't recommend booking this particular hotel through eBookers. I still ...

Pärnu, August 25, 2005 - Thursday

... is a resort can only be a stretch, but Pärnu has that kind of reputation in its own country. And I would be willing to see a concert even at North Pole if necessary. So why not one of those open-air ones in Pärnu summer? Well, it wasn't to be. At least not this time around. In fact, it was all just a matter of perspective. To someone from Croatia calling a town like Pärnu a summer capital may be a contradiction ...

Blog closed - new trips in blogger.com

This blog is now finished. I will stay in Estonia for a couple of days, celebrate the weekend in Riga, and fly to Singapore on Monday. I will be living & working in Singapore for about 1-1,5 years (well, that's at least the plan), traveling around the neighboring countries. If and when I manage to create a blog about my trips around there, it will most probably reside in blogspot.com. Life goes on. Enjoy every moment.

Happy ending! (new trip next week)

... one too fast (so almost got fined) Generally, it feels very strange, looking back at the past weeks. So many different places, so different people, so different experiences. A bit unbelievable that I was in South Africa only yesterday. But what do you know - just a bit more than 20 hours of flying, sleeping, eating, driving - and that's that!

... We had a table at a neighbouring restaurant, so had a nice bottle of rose while we listened to the concert. It was a popular classics concert containing such favourites as Beethoven's 5th, William Tell Overture, Peer Gynnt Suite and Ravel's Bolero to name a few. We really enjoyed it. We have now returned to the hotel. Tomorrow we venture into Russia and from our guide's warnings are not sure what communication we will have. I will post what I can, when I can.

... back to the hostel ASAP to call my bank. I explained that I most likely left it in the pass machine and she was able to inform me that the ATMs give out the money first and you have to press a button to say no more transactions before you get your card back. With this information I knew that I had left it in the machine, hopefully the card just got swallowed. When I got back to the hostel, Tim was real cool and said I could use the hostel phone for free to call home and sort out the bank ...
