... kids asleep except Dami who is a night owl) after midnight. Oops the campground closes (and is locked) at 11. A tour of town found a parking lot by the beach. We joined a pair of vw busses and bedded down for the night. Classy. We ARE trailer trash.

A Coruña, Galicia, Spain kramertownLiz decided she wanted to hike some of the camino, but Maureen and I were pretty tired from the past few days of traveling, so after Liz left, we went back to sleep for a while. By the time we left the hostel, it was around 1 in the afternoon, so we walked to Plaza Quintana to find a crepe place Maureen had read about. We sat at an outdoor table at this restaurant and ordered, including cafe con leche and cava, because hey, why not. After a salad, we of course needed ...

A Coruña, Galicia, Spain kramertown... She then handed me the first bread crumb and told me to go make a wish. I stood on the edge of the creek and thought hard about a wish... and thought, and thought and thought. No wishes occured to me, but after a while, I realized I must have a really good life, if I couldn't even think of one wish! Everyone else didn't seem to have the same problem, so after they had all made their wishes, we hiked back up to the bus.

From San Andres de Teixido ...
San Andres de Teixido, Galicia, Spain deena.cowans... plagued by pirates, and Maria Pita led the women in an attack on the pirates, driving them out and restoring order to the city. Badass.

We got back on the bus to drive to Betanzos, a small Galician city/village a little ways inland (and also the home of our Maria's). In Betanzos, we got a walking tour of the old part of the city, which still looked pretty medieval to me. We then went to El Parque del Pasatiempo (the park of passing ...

Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands martinlepelerin... trip. Where are those yellow arrows that help guide us so well? It took us an hour to get to city center from its periphery! Finally we see the Cathedral. You really have to see it to believe it. It is magnificent, opulent and holy. More on the cathedral tomorrow. Our Hotel Rúa Villar is right next to the Cathedral, and it welcomes us--dripping wet, tired and ready for a shower. It is elegant ...
Santiago de Compostela, Spain sueschubert... a lot of seafood, which worked for me because Í would already have consumed a bunch of more bready stuff with the free tapas. The specialties were pulpo (octopus), mussles, clams (including a long thin variety called a razor clam I had never seen before, and barnacles. The octopus was surprisingly good. I´m not sure I have ever had it cooked before. Looks like what you get at a sushi bar, but is quite tender rather than chewy and ...
Santiago de Compostela, Spain cadkinsca... aboard. Often, enough to sink the boat. Ashore, we get in a bus and head to the airport, where it all goes pretty smoothly, and we have some time to kill, so do the 10 minute walk back into town, maybe to internet. The town is small, but quite interesting, but we don't find an internet quickly, so do the rounds of the town, down to the beach, which has a good group of sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and even a couple of marine iguanas. Take a few photos, listen to ...
