Day two of hangover extraordinaire. At least I had a two hour car ride to the beautiful Salzburg in Austria. I was incredibly excited for our one night in Salzburg since we decided to splurge and book one of the fanciest hotels there--Hotel Sacher. When we arrived and checked in, I instantly fell in love with the building, but felt completely out …
We left Stuttgart after a café breakfast and headed south. Our plan was to visit my mom's family's farm near Starnberg, Bavaria, where they lived for a while after the war and before emigrating to the States. The drive down was beautiful and apart from a couple of Autobahn lunatics, it was uneventful. We had to take a bit of a detour as we got …
Our next stop was Salzburg, Austria. We left Cesky Krumlov on a small shuttle bus, which was basically a large minivan. That bus took us to the border town of Linz, Austria. About 10 minutes into our drive to Linz, it began to snow. Jen was so excited – until we started going up mountains via windy, narrow roads and slipping on those icy …
DAY 2- Sat 29/9
We looked in the hotel breakfast room, but the breakfast was HUGE (torte, cakes, cooked breakfast…..) and it was beautifully sunny, so we went out of the hotel, across Dreifaltigkeitsgasse (with its RC church Dreifaltigkeitskirche) up to Makartplatz where we went to have a healthy breakfast at Mattseer Stiftskeller …
We arrived from Stansted airport, having taken a really early flight.
The flight was a short one and we arrived mid morning. Salzburg airport is a nice smallish airport. Our taxi collected us and we drove straight to our hotel, over the Staatbrücke (bridge) onto the other side of the river to Hotel Sacher. It was raining, …

We absolutely live this place. Every detail in the room and in the common areas is perfect and they treat you like nobles from the Empire. I'd come back here in a heartbeat!
PS: The famous torte by the same name is every bit as wonderful as advertised! Do not miss it!!

The welcome was excellent with flowers & chocolates in the room. Everything was impeccably clean. The food was delicious & the bar well stocked. The service was very good, but unobtrusive. It was a shame that some exterior work on the hotel meant that we were woken rather earlier than we wanted by the noise (which was VERY noisy for a weekend stay). My only quibble was that we were overcharged, for a breakfast we did not take, and it took a while to convince them that we had eaten elsewhere that day (I felt the bill should have been changed at once as it is a prestigious hotel0

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Sacher Salzburg
After several weeks in Europe, the Sacher Salzburg was a welcome and wonderful surprise. Everything was top notch. From the attention given when you arrive, to the departure, the extras mean so very much.
The experience was great even before I arrived. The response to my many e-mails to plan my stay was unbeatable. To my delight, the consierge had many activites reserved before I arrived!
A women traveling alone, the Sacher Salzburg is a MUST! It is one of the very few hotels that treat you with respect. You can trust recommendations for activities, as the staff personalizes their choices.
Frankly, the entire Salzburg experience was such a delight, I would like to return for Christmas.
A friend and I stayed at the Sacher Hotel in early May and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is beautiful, in an excellent location and the staff helpful and friendly. The dining experience there in the hotel was equally wonderful. Not inexpensive but worth it for a onetime experience. The breakfast buffet was also outstanding and included in the price of the room They also recommended a fabulous restaurant in the old town that was great food and atmosphere and less expensive. I would love to stay there again . If you can take a train from Milan to Innsbruck and then to Salzburg, it is a plethora of scenery you will never forget. Also try the Blau Gans(Blue Goose) for lunch. Eat outside in good weather. Fun
The Sacher Hotel, the ONLY place stay when in Salzburg
I stayed at the Sacher Salzburg over Christmas week 2003. It was simply charming. The location, room, staff, restaurants, and Christmas cheer combined for a truly wonderful time. The Staff especially were friendly and helpful in terms of reserving tickets for orchestral performances, restaurant reservations and a stunning tour of the Lakes region. Some things in life are sure bets: the Sacher Torte really is THAT good; the staff really are wonderful; Salzburg in winter during Xmas really is a storybook postercard. Trust me: stay here and have a lovely time. What else could you ask for?
Hotel Sacher, Salzburg is a definate must do!You know you're in a proper hotel when, without even stating who you are, you are greeted by name at reception. It makes a warmly accepted change to have such a high interest taken in your arrival in comparison to the often standard, british hospitality. The rooms are exceptionally comfortable and what I can only describe as a 'cut above the rest'. Large amounts of room and a bathroom containing just about every appliance possible! Fantastic views of Salzburgs' scenery was great to wake up to.Although not visited, it did have a small health club and gift shop. The hotel restaraunt was a dream. Accompanied by fine champayne, a pianist, impeccable service and great company, it makes for a truly memorable occasion.Alongside the main restaraunt the hotel also offers a Cafe serving tradtional Austrian cakes, as well as a Grille restaraunt. This offered a simpler choice of food but still did not fail to impress. We asked for a meal that was not listed on the menu. Within minutes it was in front of us.Nothing is too much for the staff at this hotel. Whether a receptionist, consierge, a bartender or waitress, your wish was their command. You're every want and need is met instantly without question.Have to try the Paprika butter that is served with their bread. Wow! So good that we had to indulge during our champayne breakfast each morning!Being in the Austrain Alps I would strongly suggest taking a trip up the mountains for the day and crossing into Bevaria. The sights are breathtaking and if you can squeeze a few Sound of Music sights in beforehand then it makes for a superb day out....especially if it's cheaffuer driven. What a place! What a birthday! Must come back!
Loved Hotel Sacher
We stayed at the Hotel Sacher around New Years and were delighted by the decorations, accomodations and location. It is located right across the river from the Old City, and everything was very convenient to it.
The rooms were nice and the view (of the old city and river) were breathtaking. The breakfast was incredible...we were very happy with it (along with the chocolates left in our room!). We would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Stayed at the Sacher in November 2003. We were lucky to be given a corner room (as mentioned by a previous reviewer) which was both huge and decorated beautifully (Chandliers, 3-peice suite, desk, table and chairs etc etc). Staff were extremely helpful and polite. You get the impression that every guest is treated very well here. Ask them to arrange tickets for you for one of the Mozart concerts. We did and got the best seats in the house. Location and view cannot be beaten - right on the river, just a stone's throw from the heart of Salzburg. We will return to Salzburg, and will not even think twice about staying anywhere else. Its also fairly reasonably priced if you opt for a weekend package. Even if it wasn't, its worth paying extra to stay here. There's even champagne at the breakfast buffet. Fantastic.
A wonderful experience
We recently stayed at the Hotel Sacher, and it was the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. the view was fantastic and the size of our room was grand. Breakfast was included and we enjoyed our stay immensely. I would definately return to this hotel.
Elegant but exists in the modern world
We were treated like valued guests, not just a "pay-day" and/or nuisances as in some hotels. The staff were obliging without being too "in your face". The food was good, the rooms were comfortable, the location is unbeatable. All in all a wonderful experience - if we visit Salzburg again we will not need to bother looking for hotels - we know exactly where we'll be staying. As a bonus the price, bearing in mind that Austrian hotels can be expensive, was pleasantly reasonable.
A very pleasant experience
I have stayed at the Hotel Sacher twice in the last few months and would probably not stay anywhere else in Salzburg. The hotel is in an excellent location, right on the banks of the river. Almost everything is just a short walk from the hotel. The hotel's restuarants are very good and the service overall is outstanding. The rooms vary in size. On one stay I had an average size room, on the second stay I had a very large room. Ask for a room on one of the building corners. They are larger rooms. Yes, you may pay more to stay at the Sacher than other Salzburg hotels, but you get what you pay for.
A Beautiful Spot
We selected the Hotel Sacher for the location. It is directly across the river from the old city and within easy walking distance of all the key areas. It is a grand old hotel featuring beautifully redecorated rooms. The rooms are small but very inviting. They are air-conditioned - a rare find in Austria. The turn down service comes with a small piece of their famous sacher torte. We dined on the terrace of their casual grill restaurant. It is very well priced and the location is perfect. They offer free internet service for hotel guests. Although not as grand as the Sacher Hotel in Vienna, it is a beautiful spot.
