You arrive on the island about 10.30am and there is time for snorkelling. At low tide, this is quite an effort, as it is very shallow and difficult to actually swim. However, we did our best. I love snorkelling and will leap at every chance. Some interesting soft coral, very close inshore, with lots of colourful anenomes. Quite a few fish about and some colourful clams as well. Gave me a chance to try out my new underwater camera, ...

Today we are off to Seligan Island, aka Turtle Island. It's a protected group of islands where the sea turtles come to lay their eggs, and hopefully we get to watch some turtle action tonight, although we have been warned that we might have to wait up until 4am to see it. He even portered our gear we didn't need in our day pack. Then it was a short trip to the start of the walk. From here it was uphill for 6km taking us 5.5hrs. There were huts every 30 - 60 mins providing great rest stops and some had a squirrel running around - but different to other squirrels ...

Wildlife on the Kinabatangan

We made it to Borneo, and it was time to get back to nature. It took the better part of a day to get there, but we were eventually boarding a small boat with our luggage to cross the mighty Kinabatangan River that cuts across Borneo. We unloaded at the Nature Lodge Kinabatangan, a peaceful little resort perched on the bank on the river and tucked into the jungle. We spent the next two days exploring the jungle by boat and by foot. Early in the morning and ...
