Those tourist attractions are in Fukui City and another tourist attraction Eiheiji Temple was close to them, but it was in Eiheiji Town. The temple is famous for their hard zen practice and I expected to see some monks practicing hard, but all I saw in the temple were cleaning monks. The first incredible feature appeared about 100 yards into the pier. Along the right side of the walkway were piled huge, geometric shapes of concrete. They were stacked several deep for the length of the pier.

... to ride the Thunder-bird. She had been worried that we couldn't make the train as there was only 15 minutes between my arrival and the Thunder-bird's departure but as the experience traveler I knew there would be plenty of time and I even put my bags in lockers which luckily was on the same platform as the train. Unfortunately, the train was packed with New Year travelers and we had to stand the entire way to Fukui which was ...
