... out in a fight for dominance; hyenas nearly always give birth to twins and if they are the same sex, they fight to the death of the weaker sibling. Outside of the camp we were delighted to see a giraffe at the waterhole. It reminded us of those toys that collapse when you press the bottom, it seemed to fold its legs inward at the joints to allow its lengthy neck to reach way way down to the water. We saw a healthy population of white rhino. They ...

This morning we had a slow start to the day. We started with enjoying a huge breakfast on the deck. Today was planned to be more relaxed than yesterday. The morning drive started as a day for lions. We saw two males just outside the camp gates near the Sunset Dam. But, at 6:10am, we didn't have enough light to really get a good photo (even with flash which tends to make their eyes "pop".) Many othr cars following us decided to pull off and (apparently) wait for better light. We went on.

It turns out that was the right decision. After driving toward the Skukuza ...

... again, they might look up your "record" and still kick you out.

The kitchens on these bungalos are all external with a wood canopy so you cook and eat "al Fresco" every time. Like picnicing in the US, bird scanvengers are common during the day. The Glossy Starlings, a deep purple/black bird the size of a robin, were rather insistent about sharing anything on the table to the point they'll come and take it off your ...
