... with a few friends at a local Italian. The owner was a real character and kept us amused with stories about his famous customers. The food was very good - home made pasta for some and seafood for others. Good Italian wine too. Not as good food as the best we had in Italy but still good. It was a lovely warm evening as we strolled a short distance back to the hotel. Bed at 11.30 ...

My trepidation turned to delight as he himself cooked Wayne pasta to order (exactly how skippy boy likes with the oil and the garlic and the chilli etc etc etc - you got it - in his Italian.accent complete with hand gestures ) and I had a home made pizza which was just delicious. He couldn't have been more obliging and it was a great start to a lovely visit ...

... up above. We walked about five blocks and took a short regional train back to the train station in Mainz. The only difficulty I experienced was trying to use the restroom. It cost one Euro to enter and I simply could not get the machine to print me a ticket to enter. Finally, I snagged a German man to help me.

From there we rode our first train out of the region about 40 minutes to Mannheim. This train crossed a rural area that wound through very ...
