... a matter of around a mile squared, so walking even to the furthest part of town only really takes 15/20 minutes. So we headed across town, still keeping shtum about what I’d sorted – it wasn’t until we bumped into Heather and Koti where Koti said “so you’re off to lunch now yeah?” – obviously I played it down with a cool and calm “What? no, yes, maybe, shh!”.

... the height of summer and they're taking their holidays in London or Dublin. Where there was life there were flags flying, not just Malta flags but all sorts including religious icons. It's my type of city/ town with the historic centre built around a harbour, medieval walls, castle, maybe a church or two, not too much high rise or industry. Hoping it will look good at sunset and later too as we don't leave until midnight. I'm glad I made it ...

I find the Grand Masters/the Knights of St John equally contradictory and intriguing: 'The Knights of St John were a unique brotherhood of resolute warrior monks. From Malta, their island stronghold, these combatant aristocrats from the noblest houses of Europe, carried out their relentless crusade against the Ottoman Turks in defence of the Catholic faith.’ Warrior monks? Ahhh?

This day blended into the one before. I got to sleep at 7.30am after an epic Australia Day party and woke up again at 10.30am.

I Skyped Mum and Dad and told them about the party, and then made myself a good old Aussie breakfast of bacon and eggs (adding haloumi cos it's awesome!).
