We couldn't check in until 2pm unfortunately so we left our luggage and went exploring. Amusingly, we saw the attendant cleaning our luggage wheels in order to keep their establishment clean; how Japanese! It was, needless to say, a remarkable evening and a extremely enjoyable way to spend a 26th birthday. The art of "doing nothing" is highly underrated in American culture and relaxing without guilt is something that can be rare but also something that we will hopefully have a bit more of over the coming year.

And of course the onsen was spectacular.
