... these villages have become a very popular tourist area, and no wonder, the houses are snuggled into an idyllic valley, surrounded by forests and mountains. Really beautiful.
Most of the houses had very nice gardens, not very large, but the ones we saw had a little water feature, sometimes a very small bridge. Not many flowers out although I did see some buds on trees and a couple of green shoots.

Well, we thought we were cold in Nikko and yesterday we went to the mountains to Lake Chuzenji, a lake made by the eruption of Mt Nantal. The lake is about 24km around, and 172m at its deepest.
We arrived at Lake Chuzenji by bus and the road to our destination was just amazing in itself. The road winds around the mountains and there were points where looking out the window, at the drop below, was not for the fainthearted.

... it's an hour long wait now, imagine nice weather!

One thing you'll notice here in winter: scorching hot heating in stores and trains, feels like you're being cooked alive, then painfully arctic cold outside. The constant temperature changes all the time make you feel loopy and whoozy, I find it makes me feel extra burnt out by the end of the day. Looking forward to visiting in spring or summer next time!!

      Day trip to Nikko

A travel blog entry by jw.jm.travel on Dec 03, 2014

oooo Today was a cold one. We got our first real taste of the change in weather today and let me tell you, we were not ready for it!

Since we only had a certain amount of days in Japan, we had a pretty good itinerary nailed down. Today was set aside for a day trip to either Nikko or Hakone. Nikko offered the temples and shrines, plus the famous "3 Monkeys" plaque, but Hakone offered views of Mount Fuji. We had asked Brett last night as to ...
