Styles and Tribulations

13/06/04 It was the morning after the day before, and that day before had been the Great Barrier Reef. We were sad to see Port Douglas disappear in the rear-view as we headed north on the last stretch of tacmacked road in Northern Queensland. 60km along the road was Cape Tribulation, our last stop-off before doing a U-turn to head the 3,500km back to Sydney. We crossed the Daintree River via a rickety rope-towed ferry and drove through Daintree National Park, the greenest, densest forest Aust...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Rydges Perth Carnarvon

Very, very average

from THJ
Stayed for 2 sets of 2 days while touring Western Australia. First time we arrived, there was no one to help us in with our bags. We were clearly struggling with all our cases but nobody offered to help. Wait for check-in was over 15 minutes as there seemed to be just 1 person dealing with guests. Got a room on the Executive Floor which was OK but not much more than that. The views from the room were stunning but we chose the Executive floor because of the lounge with coffee etc available. The lounge itself smelled of smoke and was quite musty. The coffee machine was broken and the breakfast we had there was barely acceptable. It was just the little things that annoyed us - things like the heating in the room being on full blast when we arrived on a day where it was heading to 35 degrees. We asked about the pool and found out it's actually in a Health Club next door where the staff seemed to be totally uninterested. The pool isn't heated. Had to ask for towels at reception and were told there weren't any available. Kicked up a fuss and eventually the manager came out with towels. Just seems a general lack of attention to detail. Whole hotel needs an update and a new attitude - maybe Marriott staff could train them!

Friendly staff, great location

from Futuretravels
Friendly reception staff on arrival & this level of service flowed through to all areas of the hotel. Food selection in the CBD Restaurant was wide & very tasty! The CBD Bar is a popular spot amongst the locals as well & they offer a great selection of beers & local wines. Rooms have just been refurbished and beds are really comfy. Hotel is just down the road from the city shopping malls & heaps of other local attractions within walking distance

Conference stay

from easter-7
Stayed for a national conference - great new accommodation rooms - stayed in a King room - lovely outlook and very clean.

Attended a cocktail and presentation at a function room on Level 1 - very impressed with service and quality of food.

Staff at the cocktail party were very attentive, professional and friendly. First time to Perth from the east coast - will try my best to get back to Perth.

Highly recommended!

#1 in Perth CBD

from Swig
The Rydges has certainly stepped up in the Perth hotel market over the last few months - and much of this is to do with the introduction of a new GM there who has taken a very personal interest in his hotel's reputation and ability to attract return patronage. The Club facilities are fabulous and it has been terrefic to see the changes in service level and standards roll out over the last few months.

Well done and congrats to all. Food, service, facilities (Telstra hotspot wireless etc) are all attractive features that keep me coming back.

A specialty cocktail is the Red Bikini and comes highly recommended!

Good Quality Hotel in a central location

from Cailean
Stayed at this hotel for three nights in March 2006. It is in a good central location close to shops, bars restaurants etc. The room was a good size, comfortable and the fixtures and fittings were in good condition. Staff were very helpful and the breakfast more than adequate. We also ate in the hotel restaurant and found it to be one of the best we had eaten in while in perth. All in all, good value for money

Romantic Weekend

from SheenaE
Highly recommended for both overseas and local guests.

The only hotel that had a wide range of accomodation packages. I organised a night in the Spa Suite at the Rydges for my husbands birthday and the night became a treat for the both of us.

Both of us experience travellers, were very impressed in the high quality service from friendly staff from both the hotel and the CBD Restuarant. The hotel helped organise special dinner arrangements to include a surprise birthday dessert, complete with Roman candles.

Excellent hotel - very central

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Rygdes in Perth is in an excellent location just off the main pedestrian shopping street. It is a very modern, clean hotel with good contemporary large reception and particularly helpful staff.

There is a cafe/restaurant at the front of the hotel with pavement seats too, which is popular with locals. This does really good breakfasts - buffet breakfast or off menu for porridge etc. The rooms are large and very quiet. We were firstly put in a room behind the lift which was noisy, and after one night they willingly changed us to a quiet room.

The best thing about the hotel is its location - can walk to the train station in 10 mins and right by all the main shops. You can also pick up the open top bus tour outside the hotel and walk down to the front in 15 mins, which is a nice walk. It is good in that it is away from the main nightlife area (Northbridge) so fairly quiet at night.

Easy to walk to restaurants and bars - the main ones are really in Northbridge.

Overall a very good qualtiy hotel. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
The location of this hotel is ideal with short walks to the mall, convention centre and also the train station for a short trip out to Fremantle. However, the room furnishings were average - blanket had a cigarette burn and both sofa chairs looked dirty. The worse though was been bitten by bed bugs - 4 nights there in total and was quite extensively bitten!

Superb Hotel!

from lsteel
I can't speak highly enough of this hotel. Our first visit to Australia couldn't have started off better. The room was luxurious and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Excellent buffet breakfast. In an ideal position a few minutes walk from the shopping malls. We did notice that Qantas obviously have a high opinion too as they use this hotel for their crew when stopping over in Perth. I would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting Perth
