Moving from Sydney to Christchurch was a bit of a culture shock but we are now settled into this town. Not a lot here andthe weather is drizzly but we had a pleasant few hours in the museum before going into the cathedral for the boys choir evensong. Tonight we saw a lovely film called An Education. The cinema was very small and you could take drinks in but not as nice as the Rex. We have been blocked again by Abbey and cant load our travel money card AGAIN so maybe contacting one of you for ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand kirstenherridgeAfter lengthy on hold phone calls to Abbey and Sam going down to Abbey we were eventually allowed access to our own money. So we celebrated by taking a bus out to Lyttleton which is 20 mins out of Christchurch. Had a lovely coastal walk and fantastic views. Sadly there were a lot of low clouds which blogged the complete range of mountains. Now back at the hotel. We pick up our motorhome on Monday and hit the road so not sure how often we will find an internet cafe when in the open countryside...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand kirstenherridgeWe left The Honest Lawyer (and you can bet that we both bought t-shirts), before heading into Nelson for a quick bite. Then, we hit the road to Christchurch. First, we travelled back through Blenheim, before stopping in Kaiakoura (sp?!) for "crayfish". However, despite being famous for crayfish, we had scallops and fish as there was no crayfish on offer! The rain set in somewhat and the clouds kept growing.....but....as we moved south, we were again blessed with sunshine. We arrived at Christ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand littlepetalThere was a VERY early start this morning because we both went to bed so early last night. At 5.30am, the lights finally went on.....we decide a cuppa was in order and then proceeded to watch "Barnyard" - a nickelodeon version of a disney movie. Next we knew, it was 7.30am. Natasha went for a quick run and Natalie attempted to pack her case.....it all fitted! We left the glaciers at about 9.30am, after a quick stop at Full of Beans. The drive to Hokitika, although marred by much roadworks, wa...

... they had cancelled the trip. We were so dissapointed and as the rain came down we were left with nothing to do. However, it was a good opportunity to get to know the other people on the trip with us.
Nelson
We were up early the next morning and back on the big green bus. This time heading for Nelson. Yet another small town with not much to do. We stayed in a lovely hotel/hostel called Fern Lodge which put on a free beer tasting session for us ...
... places that you could enjoy no matter what the weather. Seriously, the campervan was heaps of fun and we thoroughly enjoyed the evenings with the vans circled up so we could enjoy pleasant "cocktail parties", which is a signature of the way we travel with friends. I wasn't all that taken with the bedding bit. I do suffer from tight spaces anxiety a little and I'm not a small person, so sleeping over a week in a camper was pushing the friendship. If I did it again, I'd probably spend ...
Highways of New Zealand's South Island, South Island, New Zealand harleynut... to end that part of our day. After checking in on Mark (who had actually ventured outside for a few minutes), we went to the Kiwi and Wild Bird Sanctuary. We wanted to see a kiwi before leaving New Zealand, and since kiwi are endangered, nocturnal birds (Flightless but not wingless), we figured it was see them in a reserve or not at all. In addition to learning about many of the endangered NZ birds, we also got to see the tuatara. The tuatara is "NZ's most distinctive ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand aguasA stupid flight time sees us arrive in Christchurch New Zealand at about midnight, a 30 minute wait for a bus into town and we find some keys left for us by the backpackers and we check in for our first night on the, properly, other side of the world. When we wake we find the weather is starting to show NZ off to its very best - clear blue skies, 24oC and very friendly locals. A little wander into town to get a feel for the place and a lucky conversation ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand aliandjon... it. I just need to go and shower Logan with yet more baby clothes - Dani, don't read that last bit out loud, I want him to be surprised - which I want to do in person, because I so rarely get the chance to go a bit mushy in Mothercare, and then I am totally finished. Until I realise on December 23rd that I've forgotten someone vital, that is) and headed out for dinner. Found a restaurant called the Boulevard on Oxford Terrace, which is the main street in ...
