... which is surrounded by lava flow. Newberry Volcano last erupted 1,300 years ago.

Just down the road from Lava Butte was Benham Falls which we found at the end of a half mile walk.

With a full day behind us we headed to our campground for the evening and enjoyed an ice cream social after dinner.

Tomorrow we are going to explore the Columbia River Gorge.

... rather than hindered. I was chased by a thunderstorm all day with loud cracks of thunder at my rear through much of the day. I got sprinkled on only twice and It took me so much time to get decked out in rain gear that the rain was over 3 min. later. ... foot long chicken sub, two cookies and a large drink for $7.50! God bless America....and Subway! Well and truly stuffed we headed back for a good nights kip! Unfortunately it wasn't that much of a good nights sleep (I think due to the time difference) but better than Hawaii which is all that maters! We were slightly disappointed with the free breakfast choice of porridge and a Danish pastry type cake thing! But it was free nonetheless! After which we headed back on the ...
