... love the children's shops - the clothes they sell are beautiful, if somewhat old fashioned. And the children on the whole do seem to be well behaved. Every time I have been in Spain I get the feeling that children are very cherished here.
From my perspective there are 3 star attractions to see in Oviedo and they are all Romanesque. Our hotel map showed two of theses within what we thought was a reasonable walking distance. After 45 minutes or so ...
We left San Vicente and followed the wonderful NW Spanish coast (when you can see it) and went to Ribadesella. Originally we were thinking of anchoring but then decided to moor along the pontoon in the marina. We weren't going to stay long, just overnight.
In the evening there was a performance in the towns square. We didn't attend but listened to the seagulls, surprisingly in tune, joining along.
... bus route was just brilliant - it took you through gorges, past sheer cliff faces, alongside mountains and farms etc etc.
We got to Fuente Te and took the cable car into the clouds. Shame we were unable to see the last 150 m but nevertheless it was excellent.
When we got back to San Vicente we enjoyed some local delicacies. A most enjoyable day.
... the end they decided to leave the buoy and move to the marina. Much to their disappointment (and our sympathies) the marina dried out in LW so we are unsure of what ended up happening to them but we seem to think that they possibly had an unexpected night passage.
In the morning, after a fairly restless night listening to and experiencing the wash from fishing boats leaving and reentering the harbour, we took the dinghy and went ashore and provisioned.
... the most interesting part of our trip today. A tour guide took our group into a small individual room where people on death row during medieval times were locked up. I thought being in a cave would make me nervous, but the cave was nothing compared to how small and closed off this prison was. What is worse is that they used this prison during the Spanish Civil War (circa 1930s). Its scary to think they would have used such an inhumane place in recent history. But of ...
