... the old town. The highlight of the day though was the 8Euro lunch – menu of the day. For this we got a Catalan soup which had noodles, beans, cabbage, dumplings, chicken and a few other veg. Then main course was spare ribs with sautéed onions and tomatoes, then dessert was Catalan crème, all washed down with a jug of wine ...
Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands darrenhough74The plan was to go to a little village on the outskirts of Tarragona - Altafulla but it didn't really tickle our fancy and nothing open so went a bit further south to Cambrills. On arrival I noticed that there were some waves off the beach which were probably surfable. As we drove further along the beach the waves got bigger and then I saw a few guys out there surfing. Excellent!!! I pulled over and said I was going in and the girls would have to occupy themselves ...
Cambrils, Catalonia, Spain darrenhough74Another night parked by the beach which means opening the curtain to a beautiful sunrise in the morning. Val happily sat on a seat on the promenade with her cuppa tea and watched the people walk / run / cycle / skate by. Val is definitely a people watcher, which is great because ...
Sitges, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands darrenhough74... pass by on a conveyor belt. Of course we ate too much, but it was a special occasion! So it was back to work for me on Monday but I'm really enjoying my marketing job and the English classes I have. I only have two months of the busy schedule then I plan on making the most of the free time I'll get in the summer with the break from teaching. I'll continue to post our upcoming photos and stories as we continue to be weekend tourists in and around Barcelona!
Altafulla, Catalonia, Spain clandybar... etc for sale. The cloths have a rope in each corner and the street trader golds the ropes together in one hand like holding leashes. My assumption is that strret trading is illegal and if the police come they simply pull on the ropes to bundle everything together and run away - how simple but ingenious. On my last night I go for an long walk around midnight. I come across a street full of Irish and English pubs with names like Molly's Fair City, Temple Pub, O'Hara's, and ...
Barcelona, Spain everardt... a real exciting one. The walk was nice - we cov**ed a lot of ground - the problems w**e that the two Cathedrals w**e not open - we missed the mark on the times and didn't feel like waiting around - but we did manage to get the lunch in at the restaurant Les Quinze Nits - it is quite popular with many long lines - v**y clean and mod**n - s**ving Spanish and Portuguese food. The s**vice was marginal - but the food was v ...
Barcelona, Spain jimstephkruegerLa Sagrada Familia is THE #1 site that one has to visit in Barcelona. We covered this on Saturday morning. The queues were not bad at all but there were already a lot of people in there at 11ísh in the morning. We had meant to start earlier but unfortunately, the automated window shutter in the apartment got stuck and we had to call Armando, our caretaker, to come and fix it. That done, it was actually a sub-5 minute cab ride to the WIP (work in progress ...
Barcelona, Spain big8little... we met another random Aussie called Greg. Massive bloke about 6 7 and solid, he was a AFL ruck man. Barcelona, Spain chrismal... never realised just how varied it was throughout his life from when he began at age 11 to his death in 1973. In fact, his work was quite as he was either influenced by other artists such as Matisse, Rembrandt or Cezzane or by his surroundings such as when he lived in Paris). In the afternoon, we walked to Parc Guell, an amazing park designed by Gaudi and walking through it, you could be forgiven if you thought you were in a Dr. Seuss story book! It can only ...
