Breakfast at the hotel's Al fresco restaurant watching the world go by is divine. Fran and Alyson joined us and the first thing on the agenda today is Morano Glass factory on Morano Island. Back on the mainland for some lunch a bit of a rest in air condition comfort and out of that soaring heat of the afternoon. Is it wine o'clock yet? Of course not...we are in Venice so ...
... lunch so we walked over the bridge to the Vaporetto station on the opposite side of the canal for our ten-fifteen minute ride to Cannaregio and the start of our search!
After eliting from the water bus we followed the crowd down a passageway which led to the open, more spacious commercial centre. Either side lined with wonderful shops and lots of locals doing their daily shopping.

... we moved back towards the Grand Canal and towards the St Marco dock to catch a Vaperetto back towards our apartment, we crossed the bridge that took us over the Palace River (Rio di Palazzo) which connected the Old Prison with the Doges Palace where the interrogation rooms were located. The theory is that as the prisoners crossed the bridge for the last time heading to their prison cell, they would "sigh" as they caught their last view of the outside ...
Heading north again we stopped off at one the many lakes in northern Italy, Lago Garda. This is where the locals come to take their holidays, a nice lake but nothing amazing. With that, we were off to an unexpected treat – Verona. We were basing ourselves here to catch the train to Venice, but with the free parking and great old town we definitely enjoyed ourselves. The entire ceiling of the Basilica is adorned with beautiful gold mosaics. After lunch, we went to the Olivetti showroom which is another building interior designed by Mr. Scarpa.
