Neuschwanstein castle

... the place in the decorations. After our tour, we decided to walk/hike up to the bridge where we could see a lot of people taking photos. It was well worth it as the view is most likely the same one that we saw in all the photos-the leaves were just starting to change color and in a couple more weeks would have been spectacular. They were still great colors now, though. After our 7 Euro parking fee!, we saw a night of canned food ...

Neushwanstein Castle

... I wasn't allowed to take photos for some reason so only outside shots will have to do.

The King is known as crazy King Ludwig for his obsession with the extreme - big castles, swans everywhere (the old symbol of Bavaria), ornate everything, big views, and detail, detail, detail. His castles across southern Germany sent the economy into a tailspin, so all of his unfinished castles remained that way due to his heirs having no money to finish the jobs.

A stop on the tour

... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.

King Ludwig II's amazing Neuschwanstein Castle

... Asian Restaurant that served a mixture of most asian cuisines. It was delicious, cheap & really hit the spot before headed for the hills. There are a few cute little gift stores, restaurants & hotels in the small street below the castles. It costs $9euros for a guided tour through Neuschwanstein Castle & you can get up the hill by a number of means. But as there was still an hour or so before we were due to go on the tour we decided to walk ...

Think those German models will milk my udder?

... meet a person that likes it. She's off to meet her sister, who is arriving from Morocco, before they head off to Marseille and then the Cote D'Azur. Marseille gets a bad rap, but she likes it because it's "real" - kind of like Hamburg, which we both agreed is a city that rocks. It was interesting to hear about her sister's experiences while living in Morrocco. She's living in a small town, that is poor by Moroccan standards, but she does know some ...

Fairytales are made of this

... the castle, sorry folks you will just have to see if yourself. The next castle is 40 minutes away and there are the same 3 option but also you can take a bus or a horse-drawn carriage. I chose the bus which actually doest not drop you that much more closer than hiking up there but at least 80% of it is down hill but the uphhill is so freaking uphill. Neuschwanstein castle is the castle that Disney modelled Snow Whites castle ...

Bavarian Castles

... It was way up and beyond and not feasible for the random daytripper. At least I was finally satisfied with this. As long as no one else was getting that killer view I was happy ;) I got some good shots though of the snowy mountain tops, a waterfall below the castle and the surrounding green and lakes. It was an absolutely gorgeous area there. Nestled in some gaps in the mountains in the middle of Bavaria. There was also a second castle called Hohenswangau if I remembered to ...

Just like a fairytale

Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.

Better than Disney!

... gorgeous and the views of it and from it are breathtaking.

After our tour we drove to Kempten and stayed at the Peterhof downtown. This was our first room with a tv...all German stations, of course!

On the Castle Tour

... napkins.

We toured Linderhof, one of crazy King Ludwig's castles. It's the only one that was finished before he died. Even though it wasn't sunny, Rick made some gorgeous pictures.
