We were supposed to take the cable cars and cog wheel train to Alpspix and Zugspitz for Adrian's birthday but it snowed overnight and both mountains were covered in cloud. We had to come up with a plan B and found the very pretty town of Mittenwald was close by. The buildings in this part of Bavaria are painted with murals which is quite different to other areas. We spent time wandering the streets and spending some tourist euros. We also found a good bakery/cafe and indulged ...

Arriving just after noon our ticket time for the guided tour was 3.20 leaving plenty to time ...

Today was my two palace tour to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein and I almost missed it by sleeping in. I woke at 6.30 and had to rush out by 7.10 and catch the 7.20 train. I stopped for some food and drink and made it my bus meeting point just before 8.

          The scheduled departure time ...

The trap of a flexible check out time is that you tend to take your time, so we weren't in the car until after 11am this morning. Before we left we had one last visit from Olivier’s mother who arrived with four croissants, a baguette and a very special four leaf clover for each of us. What a beautiful lady!! Heading back into Germany today we took the more scenic route, through a different section of the Black Forest as we ...
