San Pedro... La Isla Bonita

Where to even begin. Wow. So much has happened in the last few days. First, I guess I should say that we are in San Pedro, Belize. Internet is really expensive here, so I may have to finish this entry later. The other day we left Cozumel and decided to spend a night in Playa del Carmen. I preferred Playa to Cozumel... it is still very touristy, but it is a different crowd. cozumel is a bunch of old ***** that are on the cruiseships. Playa is a younger crowd, and it seems it is a little more l...

Viva Carnaval!

We just returned to our domicile at Ruby's Hotel on the beach in San Pedro. In our first hours here, we literally painted the town - or rather the townsfolk painted us. Our first assailant approached us while we were walking to dinner on the beach. She was polite about it, "Can I paint you?" And before we could respond, she slopped a handful of paint on each of our faces. We had already gone to Central Park to witness the festivities earlier in the evening, so it's not like we didn't know wha...

San Pedro

We stayed at a room at Ruby's in San Pedro. Our bed was just a 6 inch peice of foam, but felt like heaven compared to the one we had in Tulum. The vibe there was really laid back. After a nice cold shower we went to dinner with a couple of people we met along the way. Joe - a super cool New Yorker and Alynna - our volunteer friend from Oregon. We ate under a canopy on the beach. A storm rolled in while we were eating and our waiter had to keep using a broom to knock the water off of the canop...

Yesterday we went out on a ...

Now I am in Belize, on Caye Caulker...keeping a careful eye on Alma, the tropical storm that is hitting Nicaragua and Honduras now. I asked a local here about the weather, which had turned from sun to sheets of rain and pounding wind in a matter of hours. He said, "Well ...

Diving The shark infested Blue Hole

... to avoid spending the next 5 days in a deco chamber and came up slowly. The sharks continued to follow closely as I ascended and were still right there at 5 m while i did a safety stop. It was truly an amazing dive and after an hour surface interval, we had a second dive at a site called half moon cay. A sandy bottom with 7 stingrays and 2 spotted eagle rays. Then lunch on an island and finally a second dive at Long Cay Aquarium where we saw 2 turtles. ming soon....

He staged musical events which were well-attended. But then the owner suddenly turned on him and forced him to leave. The worst thing about it, he said, was that his best friend, who had been working at the bakery with him, decided to abandon him and stay on with the owner. He claimed to have no idea why he was let go ...

Since it was Jane's bday in a few days, Greg promised we could get a nice hotel and stay on the Belizean island of Caye Caulker for a whole week to soak up the sun. Luckily the weather was cooperating and after 2 weeks of cloudy rainy weather, the sun appeared and stayed out for the ...
