... stopped at a cosy, homey restaurant for lunch which sold traditional Portuguese fare. It was obvious from the looks and taste of our food that it had been prepared from the heart and with love. The food was passionate and hearty, and the flavours simple but delicious. I was still savouring my chargrilled prawns with lemon and coriander dressing for hours after my meal.

After leaving Porto, we drove up the Duoro River to Lamego. This is an historic route, although in reverse, as port (and other) wine grapes are grown in the Duoro valley. The grapes are harvested and crushed, and fermentation is started here. The fermentation is then stopped before its natural conclusion, and the wine is transported down river to be aged in the caves of Porto. ... bought some vodka from the grocery store and Ian squeezed fresh orange and lemon juice to take shots with. it's the first time I have drank in a long time and it kinda warmed me up a little bit. It was a fun night playing cards with everyone (except Lenore whom went to bed fairly early.) We made 2 roast chickens in the brick oven with all sorts of stuff on them. They turned out awesome. ... HAHA. I am so out of shape. I had to turn around after 1 kilometer. It wasn't very safe either. The roads are narrow and the cares easily go 60 mph down the twisty roads. All I could think of was my head being squished like a watermelon. So I made Mike turn back. It didn't help it's like ******* 40 degrees with 15 mph wind gusts. Guess it woulda been a better day to do laundry. It sure would dry fast.
