Beer fest!

... were a quite underwhelmed. Once again, probably due to a lack of our own intoxication. Oh well, we had fun anyway singing the "irish drinking song" game from "Whose Line Is It Anyway."
The night ended back at the hotel, and we just decided to take it easy. I think we're all getting pretty tired of living out of backpacks and sleeping on trains. Speaking of trains, we have an early one tomorrow so goodnight all!

Cold weather, slides, and ski jumps

We emerged from our miserably long train ride exhausted, groggy, unshowered, and...freezing?! Apparently we were farther north than we had realized. Our second problem involved a the time. We stumbled out of the train station at around 630 am. Our hotel check-in time was 4 pm. We were able to dump our bags at the hotel, but we had to find somewhere to go for the next several hours. We grabbed some ...

During the war, Isamu was set to a concentration camp.
After the war, he submitted his design for the Hiroshima Dome Museum, but his work was denied because he was "American".
One side he was accused to be Japanese, and the other side he was denied because he was American. I can only imagine how he was thinking of his own identity.

However, he ...

She just told me "thank you for coming all the way from Hawaii. It must be really cold here for you". It's summer, but yeah, it was a bit chilly for me. Next summer I hope to come back to Hokkaido and drive around, and I'd like to talk to more people. I am already looking forward to it!

... Had a good look around during the day, rested mid-evening and then out to "Pole Town" (it's called that for a very good reason!) for the evening. After last night Dee didn't want to take any chances so we ended up in an American baseball burger bar!! Burger was good though saying that. Ended the night in a pub - The St John's Wood with a pint for Si ...

So This is Where Dreams are Made..

The bliss of sleeping late. Without an alarm clock of any type, Stephen and I woke up around 9:30. The day for me started with Skype calls to Northwest Airlines and the Japan Immigration Bureau. We had made plans to maybe do sushi at the fish market again, but never set an exact time. Finally Aaron cracked and knocked on our door asking when we were going to the fish market. Not wanting Aaron to lose any more muscle to lack of protein we shortly joined him in going to ...

Sapporo...I Hardly Knew Ye.

... earlier) and possibly a few other small tribes...In keeping with this new method of thinking, the government also invited western scholars, architects, city planners, etc. to come and help develop the city from the ground up. This led to Sapporo probably being the most easily navigated of all Japanese cities, thanks to its very helpful grid layout. While there are no road names per se, you can find your way around by means of a system that uses the cardinal ...
