Finally pushed on into Vermont....crossed the Connecticut River....and arrived in a rainy, blowy Woodstock. Found the Blue Horse Inn and settled into our huge room...unfortunately in the front of the house again.....so a bit noisy with the passing traffic.
Enjoyed meeting other couples from the Bay Area at the complimentary wine hour, then braved the elements to go to dinner.....the only place we could find was Bentley's.

... Tower was less impressive than I had hoped. After a quick look around, I went back down and wandered around the Plaza. One of the more interesting buildings is The Egg, an egg-shaped performing arts venue. When I was done wandering around the Empire State Plaza I headed for Vermont. New England has had floods recently and there were quite a few detours and damaged roads but I eventually made it to Montpelier, VT.

Quechee, along with much of the surrounding area, was hit hard by Hurricane Irene. Both Quechee and Taftsville (down the road) have covered bridges. Both were closed due to hurricane damage. Both bridges are still standing, but the roads leading to them were pretty much washed away. The river overflowed its banks by about 36 feet. Lots of damage.
