We ate delicious burgers from a local joint that offered a plate of fries rightfully named "The mess", an enormous pile of chili and cheese covered fries topped with onions that nearly broke through the plate it was served on. After much digesting we even found a sweet spot to go sledding, leaving the hill with wet, snow soaked pants and frozen fingers, so worth it though.

Set the alarm for about 7am which was quickly snoozed until 8am.

After a quick book out we were on our way to purchase snow chains to get to Lake Tahoe. They had chains for $90 + tax or cables for $40. Needless to say the cables were purchased as they would be a 1 off use then a throw away item.

... alone. It was an uneventful last drive although very beautiful because it was through the mountains. With the sun glaring in my eyes, heading due west I reached the house exhausted and burnt out of driving.
Our trip had lasted a longer than planned, but none of it (except that big mac) was regrettable. I got to see huge portions of the US and visit some friends and family I wouldn't have had occasion to see otherwise. Now its on the the next adventure.

It’s a beautiful lake and I can understand the appeal of living here -- if you can afford the real estate and like to ski in the winter. I’m not sure I could handle the thousands of tourists that descend in summer and winter, though.

hi all, well, woke up to a rainy cold day and it didn't get any better. cold wet and windy with a temp not above 11 degrees. sound familiar lorraine and jim? the predicted snow up in the tioga pass was a reality so off we went via sacramento. ok.....quiz for you all .we went through some towns that have a musical theme. who were the artists that folsom, jackson, eldorado and lido are linked with? no cheating ...

To get a feel for the area we drove around the lake on the first day counter-clockwise. Our first stop was Logan Shoals Vista. It was our first decent look at the lake and we were surprised with the clarity and the colour was spectacular. We drove on around the lake and noticed most places cost $8 to see. This was my first hike of the summer of 2007. Dan and I ended up in the Mokulmne Wilderness. This spot is called the Meiss Country. Named after the Meiss family who drove their cattle into this territory in the summers. Their cabin is still there, a couple of miles up the Pacific Crest Trail. As Dan said, the cabin was "very murder-mystery." Well put.

... Since Lake Tahoe borders on Nevada there are a few casinos within a short drive. In fact, Harrah's and Harvey's are right on the stateline. I couldn't resist the chance at a casino style buffet so I headed into Harvey's. After eating No Name Brand Mr. Noodles everything offered look sooo good. So I had it all.
