I love you, Boston/Cambridge

A travel blog entry by kfuller

I traveled to Boston / Cambridge a few years back for training and absolutely loved it. I stayed in the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge and got to tour Harvard while I was there. Harvard Square felt international to me - I've never been abroad....yet.

Faas is jarig!

A final fling before heading home

... is. A rock. In Plymouth. Legend has it this is where landfall was made by the pilgrims, but of course no-one can know if this is the actual rock or it was some other rock they bumped into (I mean, stepped upon). Still, if you're going to venerate a rock, one rock is as good an any other rock, I guess. And it was a very nice rock, as rocks go.

So, rock duly venerated we wandered round Plymouth and partook of some refreshment in ...

... not obsessed I promise!

Checked into the hotel around midday and we were absolutely exhausted and collapsed for a couple of hours before heading downtown for lunch. Emma wanted to watch the football match so we found a pub for lunch so that we could watch the game...however, football has never really been my fave so Emily and I went for a stroll to the Boston Common and just had a little wander around there...nothing too ...

    Great views

    from Crumble

Just returned from a four night stay with my teenage daughter. The hotel, staff and location were great. We were expecting a room facing the street but pleased to have a full river view. Nice size room, unbelievably comfortable beds. The only let down is the restaurants.

For a four star hotel I would have expected a good buffet for breakfast and more choice. As long as you eat out of the hotel as we did, it can not be faulted.

    Great View & location

    from anonymous

Though we were not given the non-smoking room we requested at check-in, the front desk did accomodate us and find us a non-smoking room within 15 minutes. The view was fabulous, right on the Charles River. The bell staff was very helpful. The food was quite expensive so we took our kids over to the Galleria Mall. The concierge was snooty, but I suppose that is expected. Over all, the hotel was very clean, great location and view.

    Couldn't have been better

    from anonymous

We just spent 6 great days in Boston at the Royal Sonesta. The hotel is fantastic, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The folks at the concierge desk went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

    Great Stay

    from anonymous

The Sonesta is great value for the price, however the price appears to fluctuate and change alot, and I could never get the same price twice in a row spanning 2 week periods?

The pool is great, it is a brine (salt) mixture, which is easy on the eyes so you don't come out all itchy from chlorine overdose. (GREAT for Kids).

Location is great too. Close to the kids museums. The free shuttle buses to town are great bonus.

There staff is great, polite and courteous.

    FABULOUS!

    from anonymous

We had a wonderful experience at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge. My poor wife's luggage was lost at the airline and she was depressed at not having clean clothes... imagine her joy to see a mall, with a Filene's, literally across the street... Our bed was comfortable, the bathroom was posh and the view of the Charles River was glorious...

especially at night. The staff was helpful and the parking was, well...

okay... I dont usually stay in nice hotels... is $19 a day reasonable for parking in Boston, when you are staying at the hotel? You had coming and going priveleges... but I was shocked at the price... though some say that is a bargain. The elevators worked well, which was good.

I did not use the restaurants in the hotel because they seemed ridiculously expensive... but we ate at the PapaRazzi more than once, and the Cheesecake Factory. We had a wonderful time and were delighted with the buy two nights, get one free offer we got on expedia, making it about 80 a night...

    Great Location Comfortable Beds

    from anonymous

We spent a long weekend at the Royal Sonesta. To begin with, you cant beat the location...five minute walk to the T, across the street from a fine shopping mall and restaurants and a two minute walk to the science museum, which by the way is fabulous ...my two boys, age 12 and 14 couldnt get enough of it. The rooms were adequate size, could be bigger but the beds were very comfortable, with down comforters and we were able to store our luggage under the beds....thus more room. The hotel provides free icecream, bikes to ride the Charles River walkway and a free boat tour of the Charles river with a great tour guide. The food in the restaurant was only adequate...breakfast was fare...stay away from the french toast. Overall we would stay there again.

    Summer Weekend

    from anonymous

Just returned from Boston for a familily getaway and wanted to share our experiences at the Royal Sonesta with other readers. They are offering a Summerfest special which includes free bicycles (fantastic park system along the Charles River right outside the door), an ice cream cart set up for the kids during the hours of 4-8, and passes to a fantastic hour-long river cruise. Nice pool. exceptional service, great location, and a spell-binding (especially at night) view of the city.

Near transportation, cabs readily available, or walk into the city across the nearby bridge. Galleria Mall directly across the street for snacks at the food court or a shopaholic teen and Museum of Science right next door. Boston has tons of things to do for every member of the family and the Sonesta is a great place to stay while you're experiencing them!

    Thin Wall! Otherwise, it's good

    from anonymous

Throughout the 5 days of stay, the first 3 days were good. Then, the last two nights were not pleasant at all. My husband and I lost sleep because of the loud noise next door. It took the front desk more than 10 minutes to send someone to warn them... 10 minutes at 2am is a long time!!!! And they had to send someone to quiet them down twice the same night. Granted that it was not the hotel's fault. But then, I could hear next door talking... until 4am... THIN WALL!!!Then, the whole hallway smelled like cigarette. We rent a non-smoking room. Shouldn't the whole section of rooms belong to non-smoking area!!! Well, I told the front desk about the cigarette smell. However, the hallway remained smelling the same the whole time we were there. I doubt they have done anything about it.Well, when I paid about $200/night, I expected better environment and control.

A great place to stay, right across the river

    from tomcat33333

Even though the first floor and lobby area are under renovation, a stay in this place can be terrific, especially for adventurous souls who want to explore Boston. It's across the Charles River from Boston itself. Many of the views from the hotel are of the river and the Boston skyline, which are quite beautiful. Walk a few blocks to the trolley station and get into the city quickly for a buck. The hotel itself offers premium-quality rooms and perhaps the nicest pool-jacuzzi-health center area I've seen. Staff was most helpful. It's not an inexpensive place, but Boston is not an inexpensive city, either. We paid $179, a conference rate and thought it was a great value.

    Love this hotel!

    from jenpaice

After staying at Boston Park Plaza for 1 night and having to leave because it was just terrible, moved here for 10 days. It was over new Year, the hotel was not very busy but the staff were still in good spirits and very helpful. The hotel is great. Great location for shopping and food. Easy walk to Boston centre, 10 minutes. Or by the T or taxi, 5 mins. The rooms were a good size with everything you need. The hotel was just very relaxing and with the pool, great for just a relaxing or energetic holiday. Go, GO, GO....
