Ocho is an interesting city, divided by a straight line, on one side (from the center to the port), relatively safe area day and night, upscale boutique, restaurants and on the other side, the chaos and not so safe area. There are a few hundreds meters of beachfront.

... walking distances with heavy loads we found our Silver Seas hotel (the oldest hotel in Ocho Rios).  It was alot cheaper than Kingston, but still $25 a night.  Before we could barely get in our door, we met a bloke which was partying tonight a few doors down from us by himself.  We did the honourable Aussie thing to do and offered him company to drink with - us!  He was partying a bit hard for us though with blow.  So myself and matty said no, and stuck to the booze ...

This was a horrible nasty little place I hope to never see again. When you walk down the street, it is filthy and taxi drivers nag at you and then throw insults when you refuse to take a taxi. I Came. I Saw. I LEFT! One almost saving feature of this hideous place was swimming in the water, but even that turned south when I felt what I believe to be a sewer pipe under my feet.
