A Long Day's Journey to Bangkok

Hi friends and family, After a grueling 36 hours of travel - we're here!!! Our travels began in Salt Lake with stop overs in L.A, Taipei, Singapore and finally arriving in Bangkok totally exhausted. In L.A. we had a 41/2 hour wait. We had dinner at the Grill and then cut an extremely long security line. What could have easily been over an hour wait in line, Craig just "innocently" walked right in. We then flew 13 hours to Taipei on Singapore Airlines. I now know why they are ranked as one of ...

... trying to sell anything from drinks and food to necklaces. I won this test of patience and stepped out still in a good mood. Found a cheap and good guest house which also ran tours through the National Park. Sat out the next day for some jungle action and elephant hunting - did not see any elephants though but loads of other animals (got some nice shots there).
Spontaneously decided to cut this trip short and headed to glorious Chiang ...

At the end of the 18th century, King Taksin the Great regrouped the Thais in the south and finally drove the Burmese out with the help of King Kawila of Lampang thereby regaining Thai independence from Burma. Chiang Mai was then governed by a succession of princes who ruled the north as a Siamese protectorate under the Chakri dynasty. In the late 19th century, King Rama V appointed a ...

... I went back to the hostel and crashed. I wanted to stay up for the game. Glad I didn't. We were 2-0 at halftime, Brazil came back and beat us 2-3. Hmmm. At least competing with world powers now. I see progress in that loss.

So today Shane and I rented a car and went North. The car was delivered at noon. My hands were shaking at the thought of having to sign the contract. I held the pen up as it shook violently and I showed Shane and Noom my utter fear of ...

We got a bus to Chiang Mai for a little more money than we expected. No local buses apparently so had to pay for an aircon coach instead. Journey took about 5 and a half hours. After getting something to eat we headed to the night market, where i got some shorts and another tshirt. The next day we booked an adventure day consisting of mountain biking, elephant riding and white water rafting. After that we headed down to the driving range. Nobody really won the bet as we couldn't ...

After everyone had finished their lunches, stir fry wrapped in banana leaves, we laid down to take a little break. About 20 minutes later it started to rain. At first it was kind of nice, we were laying there all warm and dry, while the rain pitter-pattered on the roof. Then it started to pick up ...

Everybody Loves Chiang Mai (Short Version)

... we visited where they offered a three-hour introduction to Buddhism discussion in English once a week led by one of the monks. The setting was quite peaceful as we sat in a very basic little temple on the edge of the lake. The lecturer turned out to be a white former Australian turned monk talking about why he liked Chiang Mai. Soon after we sat down he said it was time to start, but that he didn't like formal lectures, so we should ask questions. If I am ever ...
