Historical Traveler Reviews of Royal Palms Hotel Hamilton
Probably my favorite hotel ever!
from bigvolley
Okay--first the bad news: it's not on the beach.
But my fiancee and I knew that going in, and we knew that we'd be renting a scooter (practically a MUST in Bermuda), so we figured (correctly) that it didn't matter, since we'd be zipping around wherever we needed to go.
Now, the good news: everything else!
This place couldn't have been lovelier. Clean, beautiful, quiet, excellent amenities, and an uber-nice staff. Leni (the head housekeeper) was a total doll--and she always seemed to be there anytime we needed anything. Lorna was a sweetheart as well. The owner (Richard) was always about to offer a story or recommendation.
The room was awfully nice, the grounds were gorgeous and peaceful, and the continental breakfast (included) was several cuts above anything similar we've had elsewhere. The dining area was too pretty to believe, and it doubled at night as the home of Ascots, a restaurant which leases the space--and was our favorite meal on the island.
For someone who is not bashful about complaining (see my review of the Alamanda Resort in St. Martin on this site: ----), it's almost unheard of that I have nothing to gripe about. I'd go again there in a second.
Attentive English Hospitality

Our 12 days residing at the Royal Palms Hotel were wonderful from beginning to end. The staff was attentive and friendly in the Bermudian way, greeting us at every sighting with a "good morning" or "hello" or other appropriate salutation. The office staff assisted with suggestions for activities, tours, and making arrangements for outings; at no extra cost. The English gardens of the grounds were lovely and comfortable; a welcoming atmosphere to begin and end the long days of swimming in the sea or sightseeing all over the island. Our room looked just as it did in the photos on the Royal Palms Web site; no camera tricks that made the room appear bigger than it actually is. What you see on their Web site is what you get.
Excellent Choice

My wife and I spent our 10-year anniversary at the Royal Palms in July 2004. We could not have asked for a better experience. The accommodations were warm and inviting and the staff was very courteous and friendly. Richard always had a kind word and a good story during the delightful continental breakfast. We rented a scooter and the hotels central location provided us easy access to the entire island. The only drawback was that it is not a waterfront property but this was greatly outweighed by all of the positives of this charming hotel. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip.
A Hidden Treasure

We had visited Bermuda 3 times and had only stayed at the big beach resorts. Because we wanted to be close to Hamilton and in a smaller hotel , we chanced the Royal Palms . It was sensational...felt like home . Susan and Richard , the sister and brother ownership team , were so helpful . They suggested trips, events, and restaurants. The surroundings were quiet and the room very tastefully done. We have travelled extensively around the world and have not found a hotel so perfect for our needs.

A relaxing haven close to Hamilton

My wife and I spent a wonderful two weeks at the Royal Palms in June 2004. It is family run by brother & sister Richard & Susan who are most welcoming and very helpful. The rooms are very well appointed (Try for a mini suite)and the location is ideal for Hamilton which is a 10 minute walk away. Ascotts restaurant in the hotel is first class as is the continental buffet breakfast served on the lovely terrace over looking the garden. Nice swimming pool (medium size) area with sunloungers. We have been to Bermuda before and stayed in larger Hotels (Fairmont Hamilton Princess) and whilst standards were good they could not match the personal attention and friendly charm of family run Royal Palms. To those who have not been to Bermuda before be carefull of booking into hotels that are at the far western end of the Island since there can be problems getting taxis to take you to other parts of the Island. Best to locate near Hamilton for easy access to the City and all the restaurants and other amenities. The Royal Palms fits the bill perfectly. Transport to the beautifull southshore beaches is easy from Hamilton by taxi, bus or rented scooter.

Just spent 5 days at this hotel and could not be happier. The owners, Richard and Susan, are delightful hosts. The room was large and comfortable. Daily breakfast afforded many choices. Location to Hamilton was convenient.

This is a terrific little hotel. The hospitality is superb. Ascots Restaurant, on the premises, is a terrific dining experience. Included in the daily rate is a great continental breakfast, served either indoors or outside. There's a nice pool on the property, as well.
Hamilton is a 10-minute walk, for evenings when you want to walk to dinner. I recommend staying in one of the mini-suites. We stayed in a standard room, and it was a bit small (but still comfortable).
All-in-all, Royal Palms is a great, more personal alternative to the larger resorts, at about half the price. We'll be back.
Feels Like Home, Even Though Your Away!

We just arrived home, and had to write a few words about the Royal Palms Hotel. Well, let's put it bluntly... there is not a bad word that comes to mind! Everything, from the moment we arrived through the beautiful gardens, we were greeted by the owners, yes, the owners, that carried our bags inside for us. They made our reservations for dinners, gave us things to do and see, and even made sure we had an umbrella when the weather was a little iffy. The room was furnished with comfortable fabrics and furniture, yet spacious enough not to feel cramped. Highly recommend this if your going to stay in Bermuda; it's so close to Hamilton town, we walked everyday. Cudos to the owners of the Royal Palms Hotel for a job well, well done!
A jewel on the edge of Hamilton

I stayed at Royal Palms Hotel while on business in August of 2001.
This is the ideal hotel for those who have stayed in as many chain hotels as they wish to.
The the rooms were large, well decroated and comfortable. The service was excellent, they even remembered my name when I returned in the evening and Leni the housekeeper made a special trip to get the youghurt I like!
