... in devil ears, 1 batman, 1 Spiderman, a copule dudes in masks, 2 girls with just some random fake blood on their face, 3 poorly represented Village people, and a guy who we think was Peter Pan, but he had cardboard fairy wings so we're not sure. All in all, Halloween ended up being a pretty fun night, but we certainly missed being home for this day! Now we are off to the Rhone Valley for some great wine... in a CAR! Stay tuned.
Aix-en-Provence, Provence, France tommcatt... The woman talked about the large mountains we would encounter and how the weather was supposed to be bad for the next week.

When discussing our trip, she said it was ‘beau’. Asked if we had a map - no, transaltion book - no, telephone - no. I said ‘je suis fou?’. But she confirmed, no ‘beau’, but offered us a place to stay at their home. As she started ...
Marseille, Provence, France 2totango... for a start, is very different, especially for languages. It seems that the French love grammar, and so Russian is becoming very tedious, having lectures on why each letter goes where. The written and spoken lessons are going pretty well though, and the teacher is great, though is mad about pronounciation and accent. This might be wrong of me to say, but when foreigners learn English, do they ever try and do an English accent and pronounce all the words properly? I ...
Aix-en-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France cft89... yesterday, Saturday, and it is cooler but still nice. The trip here was spectacular with many olive groves and big mountains. Today we went on a tour to Les Beax - another medieval town with a castle - poor Graham and on his birthday too. Then we went winetasting and to the premier olive oil producers in France. The Mistrql was blowing on the tour and it was very cold but warmer back here in the camp. Tomorrow we explore Aix on foot then we go to Avignon.

All the American kids didn't understand why our French was so good and all the French kids didn't understand why our English was so good. I have to say I got pretty sick and tired of explaining my story by the 37th time. We stayed out until 2 am, talking to all kinds of different people. I even met a ...

Marseille, Provence, France qyzhang... city on the Mediterranean that is the second largest city in France and located 20 miles south of Aix. The Mediterranean was nearly as gorgeous as the Alps even though it was rainy and cloudy. There the director of IAU, Leigh Smith, was waiting to greet us. After a few tense minutes of praying my luggage would arrive, which it did, we all loaded onto a bus. The drive was gorgeous, I can hardly describe how amazingly beautiful this area is. Soon we pulled ...

The Japanese Pavilion: We waited for 1.5 hours to eventually be led into a movie-theater-ish room where we were promptly greeted by a Spanish-speaking Japanese anime frog who spoke to us (with bad animation accompanying) about the different uses of water in Japanese history. Snore. Ryan was so weirded out ...

Clearly the distinctive sweat glands of Jack's feet descend from the Hemphill side of the family tree. Despite rarely wearing socks and never using footpowder, you could dine off of Amy's sandals. On the other hand, when I was in college I had a particular pair of Nike Country running shoes that became known as "the Living Shoes". In between runs, they were banished to the ...
Aix-en-Provence, France oneyearaway... favorite places. I was reminded how formal and polite the French are. You walk into a shop and they said, "Bonjour, Monsieur" and tell you to have a good day upon leaving. I really didn't get that in many places I've traveled. It was quite refreshing. I got to practice some of my French, but was hoping I'd actually speak more--but than again I didn't really meet any people other than those in shops and at the train station. Walked by where I ...
