When we decided to go to Jeju we knew that it was South Koreas biggest island, but we had no idea just how big it was. We expected a little island with pretty beaches and a small town. What we actually arrived on was an Island metropolis 73km long and 41 km wide with a population of 580,000 and everything you would expect to find in a big city, including a huge modern shiny airport.

We checked-in to our December Hotel and we really liked it. After washing up a little and performed jama' prayers, we went out to rent a bike from Mr. Lee's bike shop. It was much easier loading the bikes on the car decks and I was able to leave my two big panniers and one small one on the bike.

When we got upstairs I discovered I hadn't been given a bed ...

    ... of them.

My second day in Jeju, I conquered Mt. Hallasan. To get up the mountain there are 2 different trails that lead all the way to the top. On the way up I took the long trail that was about 9 km, and on the way down I took the shorter one that was about 8 km. The flaw in this plan was that at the end of the shorter trail I had to walk 4 km to the bus stop, so by the end of the day I hiked about 21 km!! Koreans love the outdoors, and they love their outdoor gear. All ...
