Algeria seems untouched by the mass tourism which has overrun parts of Morocco, Tunisia and other countries around the Med. My main question remains as to whether the country is safe for Americans. I don't allow terrorism to deter me from my travels but any insight is appreciated.

I expect that tourism will be the first asset of this country in helping to bring developement to the populations. In any case, Algerians are always willing to discuss all matters and to keep themseves informed of the latest news... this said, I have to admit that it's not uncommon to come accross very hard-headed people!
